The advancement of technology, more importantly augmented reality (AR) has only increased its reliability and has become a significant part of the healthcare system. Augmented reality is described as a form of technology that superimposes a computer-generated image to the user’s view in the real world and it is a fascinating interactive experience. It has multiple sensory modalities including visual, auditory, haptic, somatosensory and olfactory. Henceforth, proving that the existence of augmented reality (AR) in the healthcare system grows favorable by the day!

ZETA – Augmented Reality Neurosurgical Navigation is a computer vision-based navigation system that is able to track the patient in real time with surgical tools during outpatient and emergent procedures complete with external ventricular drain (EVD) placement. Due to its emanating nature, this procedure will often be performed freehand and it would result in imprecision in catheter placement. However, Zeta would counter such a risk as it allows a precise catheter placement in the brains of the patients that suffers from a life-threatening build-up fluid and pressure increase.

This medical wonder will observe a significant improvement in patient care, efficiency and decrease costs in a very costly manner. While researchers remain dedicated in working to provide better technological solutions, the existence of Zeta’s medical device alone is more than enough of a contribution for the greater good!
