Zarina Tasheva has been the Head of HR at Uz-Kor Gas Chemical, the largest polymer manufacturer in Central Asia, since 2012. With over 15 years of experience in strategic HR management in the oil and gas sector, she holds a Master's degree in HRM from the prestigious Rome Business School.

1Please provide us with a brief bio of yourself.

My name is Zarina Tasheva, and I have served as the Head of HR at Uz-Kor Gas Chemical, the largest polymer manufacturer in Central Asia, since 2012. With a wealth of experience exceeding 15 years in strategic HR management within the oil and gas sector, I have acquired a Master's degree in HRM from the prestigious Rome Business School.

Additionally, I hold internationally recognized certificates in industrial management. In recognition of my contributions to the field, I was honored with international awards in the field of Human Resource.

Subsequently, in 2021, I had the privilege of receiving a Commemorative Badge from the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan for my exceptional dedication to the development of the country and the Oil and Gas sector. Further highlighting my commitment to advancing HR practices, I was appointed as a judge for the EMBRAS Award for CIS, Europe, and Central Asia in October 2023.

Over the past year, I have focused my efforts on researching the implementation of Artificial Intelligence in HR management, aiming to enhance HR activities and empower employees within oil and gas companies. My dedication to this field is underscored by my authorship of scientific publications on the subject.

2What is your role in the company?

In the company, my role as the HR Leader involves overseeing HR operations for the largest Oil and Gas projects in Central Asia, which encompasses managing a diverse and dynamic workforce.

My primary mission is to cultivate a culture of learning, collaboration, and diversity while empowering employees to reach their full potential. My core competencies lie in organizational strategy, industrial relations, resource planning, and policy development.

Additionally, I offer expert guidance to management regarding the implementation and administration of new or updated HR policies and procedures, ensuring they seamlessly align with the organization's goals and transformation efforts.

3Please tell us more about your organization.

As part of the collaborative efforts between Uzbekistan and South Korea, the establishment of JV "Uz-Kor Gas Chemical" LLC, a joint venture between the National Holding Company "Uzbekneftegaz" and a Consortium of Korean companies, signifies a notable milestone.

Serving as the leading polymer manufacturer in Central Asia, it holds a pivotal position in the region's petrochemical sector.

4Describe the industry your organization is specialized in, as well as its main characteristics.

JV "Uz-Kor Gas Chemical" specializes in producing various petrochemicals, particularly essential polymers like polyethylene and polypropylene. These materials are crucial in industries such as packaging, construction, automotive, and textiles.

Leveraging Uzbekistan's abundant natural gas resources as a primary feedstock and partnering with Korean petrochemical companies for advanced technology, the company enhances operational efficiency and quality. Its presence significantly contributes to Uzbekistan's economic development by generating employment and driving technological progress in the petrochemical sector.

Furthermore, its high-quality polymer products cater to both domestic and international market demands. Overall, JV "Uz-Kor Gas Chemical" represents a successful collaboration between Uzbekistan and South Korea, advancing economic growth and industrial development in the region.

5Congratulations! As the winner of the TITAN Business Awards, what does it mean for you and your team to receive this distinction?

Winning the TITAN Business Award as HR Executive of the Year holds immense significance for me as the Head of HR at Uz-Kor Gas Chemical and for my entire team. It validates our efforts, expertise, and innovative approaches in HR management, enhancing my credibility and recognition in the industry.

This distinction motivates us to continue driving positive change, fostering a culture of excellence, and empowering our employees to thrive.

6How has winning an international award help promote your organization?

Winning the TITAN Award has bolstered my professionalism as an HR expert and elevated the reputation of our organization. It serves as external validation of my expertise and achievements in the field of HR, enhancing my credibility and positioning me as a leader in the industry.

Additionally, it promotes our organization as an employer of choice, showcasing our commitment to excellence in HR practices and attracting top talent.

7What are the challenges of developing / marketing your winning entry(ies)?

The challenges of developing and marketing my winning entry as HR Executive of the Year nomination for the TITAN Business Award include effectively showcasing a well-rounded approach to professional development and contribution.

This encompasses highlighting achievements such as implementing strategies to enhance HR practices within the oil and gas sector, earning a Master's Degree in HRM to demonstrate continuous learning and expertise, obtaining ISO certifications to showcase commitment to global best practices, participating as a judge in international events to showcase industry recognition and expertise, and conducting research and publications on emerging trends like Artificial Intelligence to highlight forward-thinking approaches to HR practices.

8As a business owner, please tell us more about your ideation process.
If I personally were business owner, my ideation process involves identifying market needs, brainstorming innovative solutions, conducting research, gathering feedback, and refining ideas to create products or services that address customer demands and contribute to the growth and success of the business.
9What is your own definition of a successful team / organization / business?
My definition of a successful HR expert/team/organization/business is one that effectively fosters a positive work culture, attracts and retains top talent, drives employee engagement and development, aligns HR strategies with overall business objectives, and consistently delivers measurable value to the organization.
10What led you / your organization to become successful within the industry you are currently in?
As an HR professional, my success within the HR industry is attributed to my commitment to continuous improvement, strategic HR practices, fostering a positive work culture, prioritizing employee development, and aligning HR initiatives with organizational goals.
11How has the country, you are based in, helped move your industry forward?
Uzbekistan has played a crucial role in advancing our HR industry by providing a supportive business environment, investing in education and training programs, promoting innovation, and implementing policies that foster economic growth and development.
12What have you found to be a hindering factor, for your business, during the entire course of the pandemic, and how did you overcome that hinderance?

A significant hindering factor for HR industry during the pandemic was the shift to remote work and the challenge of maintaining employee engagement and productivity.

To overcome this, we implemented virtual communication tools, established clear expectations and goals, provided additional support and resources for remote work, and fostered a culture of flexibility and adaptability.

13What are the current trends in the business industry that you are most excited about?
The current trends in the HR industry that I am most excited about include the adoption of AI and automation for streamlining HR processes, the focus on employee well-being and mental health support, the rise of remote and flexible work arrangements, and the emphasis on diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
14What resources would you recommend to someone who is searching to improve their business prospects and organizational success?
I would recommend resources such as industry publications, professional associations, online courses or certifications, networking events, HR conferences, and mentorship programs to improve business prospects and organizational success from an HR perspective.
15Where do you see the evolution of the overall business industry in the next 5-10 years?
In the next 5-10 years, I anticipate significant advancements in technology, increased globalization, a focus on sustainability and social responsibility, and a shift towards more remote and flexible work arrangements in the overall business industry.
16Who inspired you in your life, and why?

Throughout my life, I've been inspired by various individuals, but one person who stands out is my mother. She instilled in me the values of resilience, determination, and compassion. Despite facing numerous challenges in her life, she always maintained a positive attitude and taught me the importance of hard work and perseverance.

Her unwavering support and belief in my potential have been a driving force behind my success, and I am forever grateful for her influence on my life.

17What is your key to success? Any parting words of wisdom?
My key to success lies in continuous learning, adaptability, perseverance, and maintaining a positive mindset. Parting words of wisdom would be to embrace challenges as opportunities for growth, always remain true to your values, and never underestimate the power of hard work and determination in achieving your goals.
