There is a legend amongst the people of Rhode Island pertaining to tale of the most revered distilleries in the state. A tale of a man losing his wife and children to a disease that is thought to be a return of a vampire curse to bring an end to the rich lineage of successful distillers. With him and his son being the only surviving members of the family, he pursued after the still-living corpse of his family and ended her reign of terror by burning her body and mixing her ashes in his next batch of straight rye whiskey to break the curse. Where the very same batch continues to sit to this very day.
Apart from violating a series of OSHA regulations even by 1892 standards, this fantastical urban legend of Rhode Island definitely sets a rich history of brewing and distilling the country’s best hard liquors of the straight rye whiskey variety to this day! Case in point, a student submission from the globally-renowned Miami Ad School takes their typography skills to the next level to reflect the local folklore of Rhode Island. Enter, Revival, a local Rhode Island brand of whiskey!
The brand story of Revival starts with the bottle of whiskey itself. The standard vessel that contains the 100-proof (or 51% abv.) whiskey is given a gothic vampire-themed flair that makes this liquor stand out from the rest. Heavy usage of the gothic-themed font is used for every word on the label, especially so on the name of the brand, and decorated with gold accents that pop out from the onyx-black labels. The main star of the show will have to go from the stopper that seals oxygen from entering where a vampire bat is adorned. Rest assured that you won’t find any human remains floating around in your glass of whiskey!
The typography starts to flex its muscles at the dedicated webpage to showcase not only the power of the font, but also the legend that surrounds the whiskey. The story begins with a family known throughout the entirety of Rhode Island as one of the best and most profitable distilleries, followed shortly by his wife and two daughters losing their lives to an unknown disease that curiously only seem to target members of the family.
Suspecting that a vampire revival is afoot, the man and his only surviving son set out to end this vampire curse. Starting with exhuming the bodies of his family members, he identified a flawless corpse that is responsible for the killings of his family. So, he cut her heart out and burned the remains. Shortly after, he scattered the ashes in a barrel of whiskey where it continues to age to this very day and broke the vampire curse for good.
The website makes fantastic of the gothic-themed font by complementing it with a dark background and tones of red and gold to establish a horror theme. In addition to some fantastic graphics that augmented the reading experience for the website and some sexy shots of the bottle of whiskey and the unique bat-shaped stopper in all its glory.
