1First, tell us about yourself, your company, job profile, etc.
I’m an English born Art Director living in Cairns, Australia. I started off working for Dennis Publishing in London before moving overseas.
I launched Still Life Creative launched in 2010 with the simple mantra “Bold
Innovative creative that drives results”. I wanted to shift the focus back on to the biggest asset a business can have, the client. Client input and feedback is one of the most important tools an agency can have.
2Tell us a bit about your business and what you do.
Still Life Creative is a boutique advertising and media agency based in Cairns Queensland specializing in creative strategy-based Campaigns, independent media planning and buying, brand Identities, art direction and all things creative.
3Congratulations! As the winner of the 2018 Muse Creative Awards, what does winning this award mean to you and your team?
It’s an honor to win the award and a good way for us to be judged against our peers. Based in a regional market it’s always tough to stay relevant and have fresh ideas, it’s a great reward for a lot of hard work. It now gives us the chance to use the award in future pitches.
4Where do you see the evolution of creative industry going over the next 5-10 years?
I think the standard Agency model will be completely replaced with collaborative/cloud-based services with people working on the same project from multiple countries and locations.
5What are your top three (3) favorite things about our industry?
1. Seeing businesses succeed and play a small part in that success.
2. Having the chance to effect change with strong creative.
3. Being creative on a daily basis.
6If you could give one piece of advice to someone considering a career in creative industry, what would it be?
Take advice when it is given, and use criticism as a learning tool. Oh and drink plenty of coffee, because you are going to be working a lot of hours.
7What resources would you recommend to someone who wants to improve their skills in the advertising industry?
Reading. Read as much as you can and expose yourself to as many news articles, blogs, current affair articles, cultural issues, opinion pieces… basically, become a sponge and taking in the world around you.
8Tell us something you have never told anyone else.
The business name was my pseudo name as an artist.
9Finally, what is your key to success?
I’m still trying to find that key, anyone knows a good locksmith?
