Dia de los Muertos, or more commonly known to us in English as ‘The Day of the Dead’, is a celebration where the entire country celebrates both life and death with those that are still living and those who have passed on from this world long ago.
Using this heartwarming holiday that celebrates the beauty of life and enjoying it to the fullest, Mexican beer company Victoria takes this event as a basis for their marketing campaign for their alcoholic beverages in a way no one has ever done before: A musical featuring the legendary musical artists’ lively performances thanks to the power of artificial intelligence!
To execute this concept flawlessly and translate it to reality on every screen possible in Mexico, Victoria opened a casting call for musical talents who not only sound extremely similar to the original artist, but also very similarly shaped in terms of body and face shape. From here, the AI technology will fill in the rest of the blanks on forming the face on the talents in real time.
The geniuses behind this massive project, RealityKraft, said that AI has been utilized to its fullest in every other industry to maximize efficiency. But never before has AI and machine been used to deepfake the faces of the famous in a live performance and in real time.
The live concert is one that is filled with life on a day where death is celebrated. With talents wearing the masks of the past musical legends dancing, singing duets, and even interacting and talking with other live performers both living and dead. All the while the AI doing a fantastic job at seamlessly interpolating the faces without any noticeable artifacts at every camera angle.
Usually, we see death as the end of all things. But we should all take a page from Mexico and see it as reuniting with our loved ones one day instead. And with the advance of AI being used in applications like La Voz de Reencuentro, we very well might!
