Behind every hype train of a new game release year after year, a cinematic trailer by the developer is responsible for starting that very same train.
Cinematic game trailers are an artform that gives the game a chance to convey a slew of messages at once such as the story, setting, and characters for us to understand the game as a whole.
But we’re not here to dissect and inspect every single point under a microscope, we’re here to marvel at the effort put into creating the amazing visuals of the cinematic trailers!
Here are the top 3 cinematic game trailers of 2022 that amazed us and have watched a good couple of times now:
Observer: System Redux
A complete next-gen overhaul from a classic and beloved cyberpunk-ish game originally released in 2017, Observer: System Redux is a gritty and brutal first-person horror game by Bloober Team with fleshed out elements of mystery and investigation through hacking your way to solve cases.
Throughout the trailer, the camera moves smoothly throughout a crime scene with evidence littered all over the place and panning across the gruesome body of a murder victim with a single gunshot wound to his head. All while following a solitary wire of some sort snaking across the room.
The camera then slowly positions itself over the main protagonist of the game, Daniel Lazarski, as his body violently jerks in response to the final moments of the victim before his eyes open suddenly. Now realizing the full scope of the situation.
Observer: System Redux is a prime example of how to establish the complex world-building of the now-popular cyberpunk setting correctly. Showing everything with each object of interest having importance with audio complementing and augmenting the experience.

The Medium
Yet another great trailer by Bloober Team, The Medium is a third-person psychological horror game with a unique splits-screen feature that allows you to view a completely different perspective of the same image.
In the trailer, we begin with a shot of an ultrasound at work in a fertility center and checking the condition of the fetus before the trailer slowly transitions to our main protagonist, Marianne, kneeling and praying in a church.
During her prayers, flashes of orange Hellfire start to flash in and out from different visions as she runs out from the church as it falls apart and then screaming at the air in a futile attempt to make it stop.
Throughout the trailer, the more astute of you history buffs out there may recognize the time period the structures are in. In case you didn’t, the game takes place in post-communist Poland and is rife with spirits that have not found peace. And it is up to you, the player, to seek out these spirits and put them to rest using your attunement to the supernatural.
While the earlier trailer we’ve seen on Observer: System Redux is visuals-based, The Medium is one that absolutely dominates in the soundtrack department. All of the game’s score is done by both Arkadiusz Reikowski, and Akira Yamaoka of Silent Hill fame.

Farming Simulator 22
Alright, enough with the horror games now. Let’s go somewhere that is not plagued with murder and angry ghosts and instead chill out on a plot of fertile, empty land fit for crops of all kinds!
Farming Simulator is a series of games that needs no introduction. Since it’s release in 2008 by GIANTS Software, this anomaly in gaming still remains as the #1 farming simulator game that constantly improves in gameplay mechanics, visuals, and content year after year and with marketing campaigns peppered around video game conventions that put other bigger titles to shame.
We get a narration of a seasoned farmer in Midwest America talking about the hardships of the career in providing enough food for the country while he makes some last-minute final inspections of his tractor and munching on some of his harvest.
At the same time, we also constantly cut to another perspective of a new young female farmer on a fresh plot of farm land. Flashing in between cutscenes of struggling with keeping up with her daily farm tasks, her harvest becoming bad from disease, and holding up traffic with her tractor. But soon, she gets a hang of the job and gradually excels in executing her chores rapidly and having her first perfect harvest.
The end of the trailer shows a message from the same farmgirl, who just so happens to be the narrator’s daughter, and they begin their first task of plowing the fields with their tractors during the winter for next season’s harvest.
