Music brings the holy spirit to life and lights up The Union Church on the inside and outside!
There is never a more pleasing experience in the world than walking into a place of worship. Joining the ranks of other fellow believer and becoming spiritually cleansed of bad energies to become a better person for tomorrow. A church sermon is no different from other religions either! Reading and reciting scripture to learn the morals of being a good person, as well as a choir to join in singing the lyrics to become holy spirit filled.
Built in 1886 in Shanghai, The Union Church is one the more unique structures with historical significance in China’s diverse history. Retaining the Gothic style popular in the 1800s, it’s become a building that houses factory offices after the second World War before it was burnt down in 2007 and then rebuilt in 2010. To celebrate the eternal design of The Union Church, the Tongji Architectural Design (Group) Co., Ltd created a lighting design project to make every nook and cranny of the Union Church light up beautifully in the metropolitan city of Shanghai.
Special considerations have been taken by the people responsible in the project. The Union Church Management Department has given extremely strict orders to the team to not cause any form of damage to the church walls. Thus forcing the team to re-think their entire design for the project, which led to a completely new structure built inside church grounds where lighting fixtures are attached to. All without requiring a single nail or screw to be hammered into the historic walls. The strategic placement of the lights ensures that not only the interiors of the church be lit up appropriately, but also to give an incredibly rustic feeling to those who are visiting the structure.
Additionally, the perfect lighting situation created by the team also makes a terrific stage for classical music performances too! Thanks to how the curved interior of the Union Church positively contributes to the acoustics, string and brass instruments and the voice of the singer bounces off the walls and to the ears of the attendees. Creating a beautiful melody perfectly composed of rumbling bass frequencies, warm midrange, and hair-raising high notes that delivers a musical impact that touches the soul of the listeners.
The Union Church and the lighting project created by the team is a fantastic example of the old and the new fusing together to create something that is beautiful. Alongside with feeling holy, the soul is also cleansed to the core with incredible music that emanates from elegant instruments.
