War is hell, that is what we were taught in schools during history class. We all understand the dire consequences of war and the millions of lives lost throughout the entirety of human history. But we never hear about the unsung heroes who fought in them and lived to tell the tale of brutal hardship and being fearful for their lives every waking hour.
To honor the last remnants of the worst moments in history, HomeEquity Bank partnered with delivery service DoorDash to create a product to remember the good deeds of the brave souls both living and passed on who fought in the good fight against the Axis powers. Giving customers and users a literal taste of what life for a World War II soldier is like at the front lines of the battlefield, Orders of Sacrifice.
Orders of Sacrifice is a standard-issue ration pack handed out to Canadian soldiers during the height of WWII. Available for purchase on DoorDash and only on Remembrance Day in 2021, it is a small tin box containing perishable and consumable items that sates the hunger of these brave soldiers and also serving as a morale booster, even if it brings their spirits up a little bit.
Inside, the items include two tins of evaporated milk, a can of sardines, a can of corned beef, a tin containing tea and sugar, a box of biscuits, some hardtack, and finally, a bar of chocolate. Careful research has been conducted with WWII historians to validate the authenticity of the ration pack to truly give the people who purchase them a meal that helped their forefathers get through the day of raining shrapnel.
A guided video unboxing is also included to give the customer a good idea on what these items are and what they meant to those who have eaten them at the front lines. The video is narrated by a certified historian and two of Canada’s decorated and oldest veterans who had fought in the war.
The CSR campaign raised over $458,000 and garnered over 5.4 million impressions not just in Canada, but all over the world. Encouraging the younger and more tech savvy generation on the most brutal periods in modern history and the lives lost in the process.
It used to be that services such as Uber, Grubhub and Amazon are created purely for the convenience of us to satisfy our cravings. However, never before has it ever been used to remember the hard times that the fallen warriors had to endure to bring the war to an end one day at a time.
