2What led you to become a Game Developer / Marketer?
We all love games and consider ourselves gamers, and having the opportunity to work creatively on a product that is itself born of creativity is a privilege we deeply recognize and appreciate.
3What is your role in the company, and what traits should a game developer / marketing professional possess to be successful in their role?
Having fun and being creative are the key ingredients for success. You can always tell from the output if the team is enjoying themselves.
4Tell us more about your studio / company.
Starbreeze is Sweden’s longest-running independent game developer. We are known for creating immersive, cooperative gaming experiences.
We have captured the hearts of gamers worldwide with popular titles such as Payday and our upcoming Dungeons & Dragons game. Starbreeze is dedicated to crafting unique experiences that foster player cooperation, shared experiences, and keep players coming back for more.
5What is your own definition of a great game?
Our focus as a studio is on player-shared experiences, whether it be planning and robbing a bank together in PAYDAY 3 or embarking on an action RPG adventure in our upcoming Dungeons & Dragons title – it’s the shared experience between players that is key.

Insight into the product, an open and accepting brainstorming environment, and solid Photoshop skills to visualize the ideas.
8Congratulations! As the winner of the NYX Game Awards, what does it mean for you and your team to receive this distinction?
Thank you! We are very happy that the creative efforts and hard work of the team is recognized by NYX Game Awards. It is a great motivation to continue to push ourselves to raise the bar even higher.
9How has winning an international award help promote your company and game?
Only time will tell! Hopefully we inspire other creative marketers and developers out there to join our studio!
10What are the challenges of developing / marketing your winning entry(ies)?
Gamers are a no-nonsense audience. It is a great responsibility for us to create communication that honors the franchise and meets the expectations of our community.
11How has the country, you are based in, helped during your ideation process?
Tough question. We are based in Sweden, which means it’s dark like a bat cave for six months of the year. Not much else we can do besides being creative and making fun games!
12What are the current trends in the game industry that you are most excited about?
It’s a hard question to answer, the industry moves so rapidly that there’s always something to be excited about almost on a daily basis.
13What are the top THREE (3) favorite things about the gaming industry?
The fusion of various creative disciplines – Bringing together artists, writers, designers, engineers, marketers, and musicians to create immersive experiences.
Constant technical evolution – No industry moves faster or is quicker to embrace new technology, whether it’s tools, engines, or platforms. It’s incredibly fast-paced and always pushing the boundaries.
Community building and the social aspects – Games are inherently social, whether it’s a board game or a massive multiplayer online behemoth. Games bring people together, often across vast distances, to collaborate, compete, and share experiences.
14What resources would you recommend to someone who is searching to improve their game designs and development ideas / skills?
Don’t forget to ask yourself, “Is the game fun?”
15Where do you see the evolution of the gaming industry in the next 5-10 years?
The only way is up! It will continue to grow, continue to be the biggest slice of the entertainment industry and it will continue to push boundaries both technically and creatively.
