Reminiscent of a Superyacht

Winning the Platinum Award in the 2024 London Design Awards, Rob Mills Architecture & Interiors designed the St George's Road Residence. This project draws its influence from the natural fall of the land, with sleek curves resembling a superyacht. This influence is evident in the residence’s elegant, fluid form that adapts gracefully to its environment. The residence addresses the clients' needs while respecting the local landscape, built environment, and community values.

During its development, the project engaged with local residents and expert consultants which ensured that the project's value aligns. Initial debates and discussions led to unanimous council support, with comments stating it "fits with the environment," "ticks all the right boxes,” and is “beautifully designed.” This process allowed both developers and local residents a resonated approach where innovative vision and local sensibilities are aligned.

Natural elements were carefully integrated throughout the residence, which is the central conceptual entry into intelligent architecture and healthy design. The light, air, and space were carefully included in the residence to ensure all were well-integrated with the designs. To contribute to an environment that nurtures well-being and encourages a positive lifestyle for the inhabitants, a well-planned floor plan is incorporated with acoustic, thermal, solar and sustainable qualities. All of these characteristics and details allow for a thoughtful experience that creates a living space, promoting comfort and efficiency.

Focusing on form, materiality, and aesthetic quality, Rob Mills Architecture & Interiors' aspect of the residence is evident. In the design, one can see the graceful lines and refined surfaces while using materials that reinforce the connection with nature while providing durability and functionality. As seen in the designs, one can notice the use of materials that very much resemble natural elements like wood, granite, and marble among others. This design is very much a balance between modern sophistication and everyday practicality, offering a visual promoting an efficient living space.

The superyacht-inspired shape is a design which utilises the topography of the site, transforming challenges into opportunities. This allowed the project to create a structure that integrates with the environment which results in a home built with innovative designs.

Receiving recognition in the Architectural Design - Conceptual Category, the St George's Road Residence captures the essence of innovative design that supports the well-being of both residences and nature. This achievement is a reflection of commitment to sustainable practices and community engagement by combining creative vision with careful planning. The project honours its surroundings while meeting the aspirations of its residents, an outcome that celebrates refined design, efficiency and a strong connection of community and nature.
