My team at Editor World has been focused on expanding our international client base in recent years. Winning an international award gives me an added signal letting clients know that Editor World can be trusted to provide high-quality writing, editing, and proofreading services. I also enjoy learning about other businesses (and learning from them) through international awards like this.

One challenge of developing a winning entry is finding the time to create a high-quality application with supporting materials.

As a business owner, I think about ways to improve the business frequently. I also talk to my team and clients constantly to find ways to improve the experience for my clients as well as for my writers and editors.

My definition of a successful business is one that solves a problem or need in an ethical way while treating employees and clients fairly. Having grown up in a coal mining family, I've seen the negative effects from businesses that only care about making money for those at the top. That's something I often think about when making business decisions - how can we continue to expand the business while still giving clients (and writers and editors) the best experience possible.

One of the key features of Editor World's business model is trying to make every transaction and interaction a good experience for both the client and the provider, whether it's a writer or editor. This helps me attract and retain the best editors, and is also behind having 65% of transactions from repeat clients. Persistence and consistent focus have also been important for my team.

One of the hindering factors since 2020 has been the change in sales trends. The sales cycles that I had prior to 2020 have not continued into the present and it's harder to predict demand each month. Some months that used to have high sales have been low, and vice versa.

I am lucky that I have been able to retain a team of high-quality writers and editors to meet the needs of my clients. Inflation is also a more recent hindering factor, but that's something that's affecting many small businesses.
