Interview with Kazutoshi Kawakami, the Category Winner of the European Photography Awards

Kazutoshi Kawakami

Kazutoshi Kawakami, a self-taught photographer, got into photography when friends shared their own shots, inspiring him to start capturing moments himself. His goal now is to develop his skills and become a recognised photographic artist.

I began my journey into photography when I was inspired by my friends sharing their own captured moments, sparking my desire to create my own images. Today, my goal is to develop my craft and establish myself as a photographic artist.

I am a self-taught photographer when it comes to my skills and knowledge in photography. I, personally, tend not to frequent museums as it's not a common part of my routine.

I don't remember exactly, but I think it was a snapshot or a photo that falls into the category of street photography in the city.

I rely on an SLR camera to capture high-quality images. I use Adobe Photoshop for post-processing to enhance and refine my photos, ensuring they align with my artistic vision and standards.

My desire is to express my gratitude and share positive vibes with my supporters on a daily basis, as they play a significant role in my journey. Sending thanks and smiles is my way of acknowledging their unwavering encouragement and brightening their day in return.

Creativity, idea and message!

I feel deeply privileged to be involved in the 2023 European Photography Awards, as it provides us photographers with a unique opportunity to express our gratitude to those who have supported us and celebrate their contributions alongside us!

My intention was to produce a piece of art centred around the issue of global hunger. Simultaneously, I aspired for my artwork to gain recognition in the European Photography Awards, where its visual representation could resonate with a broader audience and potentially make an impact.

The European Photography Awards presents an excellent platform for advancing my photography career. I've discovered that as photographers, this competition offers us a valuable opportunity for personal growth, enabling us to evolve not only as artists but also as individuals.

It's essential to maintain a positive and optimistic mindset where you avoid using negative or discouraging words. By adopting this approach, you are more likely to pave a path to success, as your mental attitude and language can significantly influence your actions and outcomes.

Have faith in the emotions that you truly connect with and stay true to them. It's about trusting your gut and sticking with what feels right to you.

I don't feel that I've reached a point where I can call myself successful, but I have strong faith in the direction I'm heading. I'm putting in dedicated effort and working diligently on my chosen path, determined to achieve the success I'm aiming for.

I maintain an open and receptive mindset by embracing the present moment and finding my own unique way to adapt and shape it. This involves not just accepting circumstances as they are but also proactively making changes that align with my goals and values. It's about being flexible and creative in navigating life's challenges and opportunities.

I feel a deep sense of privilege to be a participant in this remarkable competition. I kindly request that you keep in mind the name KAZUTOSHI KAWAKAMI, representing Japan in this event. It's a recognition of both my personal commitment and my country's representation in this competition, and I'm excited to be a part of it.
