Portola Valley House is a residential sanctuary for two with the honor of accommodating many. SB Architects visualized a single-story intimate space that would be a home to age peacefully with a wide area to host children and grandchildren visits.
Creating such a space with tranquility and luxury in mind, the 10,000-square-foot residential is formulated to make the most out of the views of the rolling hills that overlooks the valley. The design will encourage and nurture the client’s wellness-focused lifestyle with ample opportunities to practice meditation. Clients are greeted with a courtyard that promises a smooth transaction to peace and promotes a sense of discovery. The public areas which includes the living room, kitchen and dining area are placed strategically to have a 270-degree view of the location and to further exude class, barrier-breaking between indoor and outdoor spaces that looks outside are placed with a spacious outdoor deck and pool area.
Simple material palette of wood, stone and raw steel was utilized throughout the house, ornamented with cedar ceilings which adds warmth and texture.
