Interview with the 2022 MUSE Design Awards Winner - Korarit Whangsritrai

1Please give us a brief bio of yourself and your design background.

Hi, my name is Korarit Whangsritrai. I graduated with bachelor's and master's degrees at Rangsit University. I have a work experience of 20 years in designing houses, hotels, and restaurants.

2What made you become/why did you choose to become a designer/artist?

I have a passion for design since I was young, when I grew up I wanted to do design work from my own idea.

3Tell us more about your business/company, job profile, and what you do.

K.R.Decorate Co.,Ltd. provides design and construction services to customers. I am the chief designer of the company. I work closely with other designers to ensure our customer's dream house come to reality.

4What does “design” mean to you?

Think of ways to meet human needs in today's environment.

5What’s your favorite kind of design and why?

I like designs that talk and understand the needs of customers and set plans.

6To you, what makes a “good” design?

When it meets the needs of the people but elaborate it with nature.

7Describe your design style and its main characteristics.

I understand the nature of that area, who wants to design and integrate the identity of the customer into the design.

8Tell us about your design process.

I'm the one who sets the floor plan furniture and lighting as well as the ceiling with elevation for the whole project including the characteristics of furniture and decorations in the project and send all the work to the other team members.

9Do you think your country and its cultural heritage has an impact on your design process?

Yes, there is an inevitable consequence.

10Congratulations! As the winner of the 2022 MUSE Design Awards, what does it mean to you and your company and team to receive this award distinction?

The whole company is delighted with this award. It will be an impetus to be willing to produce works in the future.

11Can you explain a bit about the winning work you entered into the 2022 MUSE Design Awards, and why you chose to enter this project?

Because it is a small design area, but requires 4 people to share space, but the attraction is in the time of use of the space. which when the job is completed, the customer actually uses it and is very satisfied with the job therefore interested in submitting the work to enter the contest in this arena

12What was the biggest challenge with this project?

It is an area of only 45 square meters, which have 4 people live together in it.

13How has winning an Award developed your practice/career?

I feel happy and it driven my focus to design the next work.

14What are your top three (3) favorite things about our industry?

1. Beautiful statuette designs.

2. Outstanding works by participants worldwide.

3. Esteemed judges worldwide as well.

15What makes your country specifically, unique in the design industry?

People in Thailand adapt to the current situation and trend very well.

16Where do you see the evolution of design industry going over the next 5-10 years?

The design is simpler and reflects the user's identity.

17If you were a student entering this industry or an aspiring MUSE Design Awards submitter, what advice would you give them?

You have to pay close attention to the design and try to understand the origin of the work. and see the final result of the design.

18What resources would you recommend to someone who wants to improve their skills in the design industry?

Follow up on design news from all channels in their country.

19Tell us something you have never told anyone else.

20Who has inspired you in your life and why?

Ms. Praewphan, she is both a leader and a friend, able to talk about anything.

21What is your key to success? Any parting words of wisdom?

I intend to do everything to the best.
