C&D MANYUN LIFE HOUSE in Nanning, China transcends the boundaries of conventional architecture. This captivating clubhouse, designed by HZS Design Holding Company Limited for Xiamen C&D Corp., elegantly blends the essence of traditional Chinese aesthetics with modern design sensibilities.
Embracing the Local Context
C&D MANYUN LIFE HOUSE finds its place within the bustling streets and historical allure of Nanning's old city district, harmonising with its environment. The design team, led by the architect's desire to capture the local spirit of yearning for freedom and boundlessness, translated this concept into the form of the building.
A Journey Through Layers
Upon entering the clubhouse, visitors embark on a captivating spatial experience. The entrance, featuring a captivating metal panel adorned with an abstract mountain-and-sea motif inspired by Kejia People traditions, sets the tone for the journey ahead. The two entrances, one for pedestrians and one for vehicles, converge at the entrance plaza and sunken courtyard, leading to the reception hall.
A Fusion of Ruggedness and Delicacy
The building's exterior presents a captivating interplay of contrasting materials. The medium grey marble, with its irregular ice crack patterns, conveys a sense of ruggedness. This is beautifully balanced by the delicate elegance of the stainless steel elements. The oversized, gracefully extended eaves further accentuate the boldness of the design, while the use of stainless steel mesh in specific areas evokes the hazy charm of ancient Chinese screens.
A Modern Interpretation of Traditional Charm
C&D MANYUN LIFE HOUSE exemplifies the harmonious coexistence of tradition and modernity. By translating the essence of classical Chinese gardens, where seemingly limited spaces hold boundless possibilities, the designers realised a multi-level interaction between landscape and architectural space. This approach resonates with the project's core value of "preserving history with innovative thinking."
