1Can you explain a bit about the winning work you entered into the 2019 Muse Awards, and why you chose to enter this project?
Adjacent to the riverside and mountain forest, the residential interior design work “Tremendous scenery.” is decorated with the large floor-to-ceiling windows at the indoor balcony, giving it great views to the beautiful nature from day to night. The house has a wonderful view to the changes of nature over time as you live harmoniously with nature.
The imagery of this interior design firmly connects the living space with natural landscape. Establishing the open-minded and far-sighted design ideas that make the gorgeous window view as the intriguing vista enlivening the living space, this is what motivates the design director to participate in this design competition.
2What was the biggest challenge with this project?
Our challenge was to remove the original walls between areas without compromising each area’s individuality. To consistently correspond to the stunning mountain and river, we used the white marbles, on which the delicate patterns artistically resemble the water ripples.
The grey travertines decorated on the walls simulates a mountain ink painting very well. It was time-consuming and spiritual challenging for us to find the proper decoration materials that fully demonstrate our design ideas.
3How has winning an Award developed your practice/career?
We participate in design competition not to gain more reputation, but to help us find clarity in our work and move forward. For me, as a creative designer, winning the prize from the Muse Design Awards this year not only boosts our morale, but it also recognizes our natural concept developing the design brand in the early stage.
4If you were a student entering this industry or an aspiring Muse Award submitter, what advice would you give them?
To those either as students ready to be designers or as participants to the Muse Design Awards, I suggest that you need to be passionate about design.
The reason is that there is neither limit nor convention to design. It is necessary to be sensitive to life experiences and aesthetics, thus being open-minded. It is also needed to comprehend and learn the structural and logical elements of the architecture and interior design, so as to broaden your horizon in design.
5What is your key to success? Any parting words of wisdom?
Up to now, I, as the design director, would not say that we are successful. Why? Because there is always room for improvement in each design project, it is crucial for the design director to learn constantly, to be all-embracing, and to create the more powerful interdisciplinary connections.
6Do you have anything else you would like to add to the interview?
Design jobs never stop changing, and we constantly change according to different factors. We, therefore, must entirely integrate the information of design and the needs from clients with open mind.
Every client figuratively symbolizes an excellent book, and my job is to comprehensively read his/her mind, so as to design for everyone the exclusive and decent spaces with different design ideas.
