Interview with the 2021 MUSE Creative Awards Winner - Oksana Kashkovskaya

1Please give us a brief bio of yourself and your creative background.

I began as professional photographer since 2012 and during many past years I developed myself and researched different fields of design areas, include 3D graphic and 2D animation.

Besides this, I had experience at creating short animation works. I have a graphic design degree, thus I'm also working as graphic designer. The package design is one of my passions, and the love of my creative part of life. In my works, I try to use the all my knowledge that I have from different design areas when working on my new package design ideas.

2What made you become/why did you choose to become a creative?

My love to design I had from my childhood, thus, it was deliberate choice where I always had no doubts that I will become a designer at some field of creative design area.

3Tell us more about your business/company, job profile, and what you do.

At this moment I working more on package designs. However, by also doing different orders as graphic designers, I created my own design studio in 2018, OK DEsign, which has initials of my name.

4What does “creativity” mean to you?

For me creativity is like a synonym to the word freedom that expresses my design ideas without any borders of my imagination.

5To you, what makes a “creative” idea and/or design?

I think the ideas of different designers are different, thus the standard on how to create a design is new and fresh for everyone.

6Tell us about your creative and/or design process.

Usually, many designers begin to create their first design ideas using the paper sketches. I prefer working directly at the design 3D softwares for to see the design will look like from all sides and after decide how much it needs to be changed .

7What's your favorite part of the creative process and why?

I think it is collect all pieces at one as textures, colours and shapes and to finally see all hard labour of my work.

8Describe your creative style and its main characteristics.

My creative style is to see the final design idea in my mind and after to try to realise it during the process, thus changing some details, but overall I always to know how will be look the final product. Besides this, I can organise myself during the working process to keep in mind what I wanted to created at the start and won't change it to a completely different design style. Mostly I am faithful to my first design concept.

9Do you think your country and its cultural heritage has an impact on your creativity process?

I was born in Middle Asia, thus I had a multicultural education, which is to say it could completely influence on my design preferences. I have researched a lot of new design areas, as I have taken ideas from different cultures because I love many design styles, including ancient ethnic cultures to the contemporary minimalistic.

10Congratulations! As the winner of the 2021 MUSE Creative Awards, what does it mean to you and your company and team to receive this award distinction?

I would like again to say thank you for this opportunity to become the Gold Winner of the Muse Design Award. I'm very proud of this. For me, it is a new step to open new opportunities and to see that my design really has value at the design world, and also be appreciated by professional judges from all over the world! Thank you!!

11Can you explain a bit about the winning work you entered into the 2021 MUSE Creative Awards, and why you chose to enter this project?

Wine Africa is a new project that I created in 2021 year. The main point to this design idea was the bright colours, graphic elements like images of animals and simple packaging that can look unusual, which has more design elements than design shapes. This packaging looks funny and can rise up to mood if a person looks at it. The main idea was not only to create something interesting, but also to create designs that can rise up the spirit.

12What was the biggest challenge with this project?

I think it is to collect, to one point, two different animals for that looks as one whole element organically. At the same time. every animal has to have a good, recognisable, individual shape.

13How has winning an Award developed your practice/career?

Receiving an award always helps in a design career. Firstly, because the clients begin to trust you more as a professional, which works are assessed by the international design community and by the best professional judges at the design categories.

14Where do you see the evolution of creative industry going over the next 5-10 years?

Hard to answer on this question now. It can be absolutely any place at our planet.

15If you were a student entering this industry or an aspiring MUSE Creative Awards submitter, what advice would you give them?

Work hard on design ideas. First of all, do a preliminary test and look for any limitations or anything that is not perfect. I think you need to be a perfectionist in the design industry and be dissatisfied with the results until you can enhance your project to the best.

16What resources would you recommend to someone who wants to improve their skills in the creative industry?

It depends on what exactly do you need to find and that needs research first. At this moment, there are a lot of different sources such as network platforms and additional professional courses that can give good knowledge. Thus, it is possible to learn new by yourself just using the internet.

17Who has inspired you in your life and why?

I think it is thirst to new knowledge as the main inspiration for my life. The world so huge and interesting, and this will be not enough one life to research it all to the end.

18What is your key to success? Any parting words of wisdom?

Work hard. You need to put a huge goal so that you can aspire to achieve it your whole life and inspire you to be better and better.
