Lin Zong-lin, chairman of the Qing Jing Lin Real Estate Co., LTD, has been adhering to the belief in building a good house since he joined the construction industry. With the business philosophy of give, divide, and combined management methods, he encourages employees to start businesses within the group and save resources, helping hardworking partners to jointly create successful performance. 2What made you become/why did you choose to become a designer/artist?

Housing is a basic human need, and architecture is a work of art that combines history, culture, science, engineering, and environment. Rationally, it needs to meet the various design needs of users; perceptually, it can bring people psychological satisfaction or touch through the spatial field and interaction with nature. This is the duty and task of the architect.

4What does “design” mean to you?

People live within architectures, and good architecture should bring people a visual experience and a human-oriented experience. The whole building should be born for nature, just like this case, Qing Jing Lin Barkeri, with the most humble and gentle gesture tribute to the world!

5What’s your favorite kind of design and why?

Design is nothing more than the control of two things, one is image and the other is color. Taking the residential building Qing Jing Lin Barkeri as an example. It is suited for gentle lines, lowering the color saturation, using gray scales and warm colors to combine to create a comfortable and durable living space.

6To you, what makes a “good” design?

Design should start with a human-oriented experience. The subtle changes in spatial scale, material, movement, vision, environment, etc., can affect the physical and psychological feelings of the user with or without the user’s knowledge. Therefore, designers can't just execute the design on the drawings, but need a deeper space to figure out.

7Describe your design style and its main characteristics.

The exterior of Qing Jing Lin Barkeri’s building is decorated with a golden ratio neo-classical structure on all sides. Every angle is the protagonist of the visual. Simple lines convey the power of vision without complicated decorations, and the neo-classical internalization echoes the neatness of modern architecture, creating a powerful building.

8Tell us about your design process.

The Qing Jing Lin Barkeri’s building has various windows and balconies not only directly talk to nature, and draw light into the room; at the same time, simple penetrating lines and rhythmic openings are formed on the façade. The changes in the façade levels at the same time express a richer lifestyle, which gives the design deeper connotations with modern classical techniques.

The use of a solid architectural base and the rhythmic lines ingeniously combined with the landscape design makes the natural landscape spread into the residential community. The building is mainly designed in a warm gray tone to strengthen the clean lines of the façade. At the same time as the weather changes, the building can blend in with the rich changes of nature.

9Do you think your country and its cultural heritage has an impact on your design process?

Taiwan’s cultural context has made us a diverse and free country. In space design, we pay tribute to the natural environment with a humble and gentle spirit, create architecture in nature, and at the same time bring nature into architecture. In appearance design, we use aesthetics to combine multiple styles, creating a rich visual experience. Qing Jing Lin Bakeri is exactly the design created under the influence of such diverse cultures.

10Congratulations! As the winner of the 2020 MUSE Design Awards, what does it mean to you and your company and team to receive this award distinction?

Many thanks to the MUSE Award for the affirmation of the team's architectural aesthetics. We will continue to work hard with all outstanding colleagues in the industry on this design road.

11Can you explain a bit about the winning work you entered into the 2020 MUSE Design Awards, and why you chose to enter this project?

Qing Jing Lin Barkeri uses the architectural volume of the living space to create a garden. The garden is designed with rich levels of landscape, and then the residents’ resting and social spaces are arranged in the garden independently in a modern classical style with the natural environment and fashion. The rhythm changes between styles, creating stunning architectural communities.

12What was the biggest challenge with this project?

Qing Jinglin Bakeri uses simple lines to interpret modern classical styles without overly ornate decorations and blends into the urban environment and local streetscape. In such a subtractive design, the texture and value of the work can be maintained.

13What are your top three (3) favorite things about our industry?

Architectural design must first meet the needs of users and create the greatest possibilities under various restricted conditions to respond to natural and urban environments.

14What makes your country specifically, unique in the design industry?

Taiwan is located in the Western Pacific Seismic Zone. When evaluating buildings, safety occupies a large proportion. In the premise of meeting safety requirements, architectural design must make people pay attention to the impact of architectural space and aesthetics on life.

15 Where do you see the evolution of design industry going over the next 5-10 years?

With the advancement of residential smart technology in recent years, future buildings will incorporate more smart facilities which will change our use and definition of building space.

16If you were a student entering this industry or an aspiring MUSE Design Awards submitter, what advice would you give them?

Enjoy life fully, and observe the things and people around you in order to enrich your design.

17What resources would you recommend to someone who wants to improve their skills in the design industry?

Be passionate about life.

18Who has inspired you in your life and why?

In the food, clothing, housing, transportation and education, the joys and sorrows of people and things, the observation of space everywhere in life, and our interaction with the environment can all respond to my design.

19What is your key to success? Any parting words of wisdom?

Be passionate about life and constantly challenge the rules.
