Interview With The 2022 London Photography Awards Platinum Winner – Kazutoshi Kawakami

1Can you introduce yourself and talk about how you got into photography?

I am a Photographic Artist.

I started photography after being inspired by my friend's photographs.

2Where did you study photography?
I have developed my skills entirely on my own.
3Do you remember your first shot? What was it?
The first photo I took was about my daily life when I didn't know Photoshop yet.
4What equipment do you use?
Canon Cameras and Lenses, adobe photoshop, etc.
5What do you hope to achieve?
I want to use my photographic skills to make people smile.
6What compliment inspired/touched you the most?
These are words that resonated with the concept of the work.
7What inspires your unique storytelling?
Imaging from everything in our daily life and past memories.
8What THREE (3) words describe your photography style?

9Congratulations! As the winner of the London Photography Awards, what does it mean for you and your team to receive this distinction?

I am very honoured. Thank you and I hope to see you again in the near future.

It is a way of thanking and repaying those who have supported me and we believe that this will lead to the work we want to do in the future to bring smiles to people's faces.

10Can you explain a bit about the winning work you entered into the 2022 London Photography Awards, and why you chose to enter this project?
I entered this contest because I was able to express my favorite view of the world and I wanted an opportunity for many people to see my work. It is also an encouragement to myself.
11How has winning an award developed your career?
I believe that I have gained a great deal of trust and confidence. I will carry this result forward into the future.
12Name 1-3 photographers who have inspired you.
Erik Johansson
13What was the best piece of advice you were given starting out, by a mentor or your role model?
These are the words that told me to trust the feelings I have now and move on.
14What advice would you give someone who would like to become a photographer today?
I hope that you will go on believing in yourself.
15What is your key to success? Any parting words of wisdom?
Remember to be thankful to all those around you who are involved and set goals as you move forward.
16How do you stay in that space of being receptive to new information and knowledge?
I recognise that the world is constantly evolving, and I am always willing to evolve as well.
