My name is Jiri Lizler and I have been a commercial photographer with a focus on architectural photography for over 8 years. These last few years, I have shifted more towards hotels photography. A fun fact about me, I got into photography by accident! It was when I was interested to find out how to take those sexy interior design photos.
Actually, I've never studied photography. I learnt everything by myself since eight years ago. Mostly its online learning and when the tutorial era began, I was there.
I don't remember the exact photo but it was definitely awful, with a lot of unnecessary retouching.
I use Canon 5DS, 5D M3 and R6, with variety of lenses. Mainly 24mm TS-E for my architectural work, and 24-70 and 100mm for details images.
I love the excitement before shooting new faces. I hope to do more shoots for bigger clients. As of now, I'm truly fascinated by interior designs and working with hotels. Therefore, that's the path I'd like to pursue.
I appreciate all the criticism and compliments. I don't have a favorite yet.
The vast majority of my work is commercial commissions. For the last few years, I have been solely focused on these jobs and have neglected myself. In commercial, it's always about communicating with the client, respecting the standards given, and a little bit of the part left for you. My goal is to make the photography as visually interesting as possible, but to the extent that it is still real.
Clean, Crisp, Natural
I was shocked! After a long time, I entered the awards using my own work that was personal and meaningful to me, and finally won... That is such a great feeling.
I've been shooting with my wife Lucy since the beginning, who has also taken up photography somewhere last year, specifically on food photography. One day, when I was driving to the airport to pick up my wife and daughter, I had an idea about food photography, that it is all very similar. So, I started to entertain myself with an idea how the food is going to be presented in the future, and wonder what the focus will be? I have an internal association of neon colours, which for me, represents the future. That's how I came up with the Neon series.
I have won several awards in my country, Czech Republic. But, I have never pursued this career with the intention to enter competitions. I will probably have to rethink this ;)
For architecture, it's Tom Kurek and Ema Peter.
For food, it's definitely Francesco Tonelli.
As I was self-taught, I did not really consult with anyone and had to learn the hard way, by trying and failing.
Don't think too much about the quality of your work (it will probably suck when you start) but just keep shooting, it will get better.
Do not try to push ideas, it has to come naturally. Sometimes you have to connect the dots but it cannot be forced. Think differently.
I love gaming, it's the only time when my brain stops thinking. I came up with this series when my wife and daughter were on vacation. I had a week for myself where I was gaming non-stop. The day I came to pick them up I connected the dots.
I would nominate everyone to try it out.
Online learning and tutorial era has turned Jiri Lizler into a brilliant, and an expert self-taught Photographer. You would believe it when you see his amazing works!
