1Can you introduce yourself and talk about how you got into photography?
Hello, I'm Iryna Vozniak, a photographer and visual artist based in Kyiv, Ukraine. My photography journey began as a creative outlet during my maternity leave. In 2022, I decided to pursue my passion more seriously by enrolling in the Kyiv School of Photography, where I dedicated myself to honing my skills. Since then, photography has become my primary focus and creative outlet.
2Where did you study photography?
I studied photography at the Kyiv School of Photography in Ukraine. Currently, I am also furthering my studies at the Form Photo Academy (Paris, France).
3Do you remember your first shot? What was it?
I don't remember exactly, but one of the first pictures I took was of my kids. Capturing their joyful expressions and candid moments was what initially sparked my love for photography.
4What equipment do you use?
I use a Canon R6 along with a 50mm lens. This combination allows me to capture high-quality images with great detail and depth.
5What do you hope to achieve?
I hope to evoke emotional responses and inspire introspection through my work. My goal is to create images that not only capture moments but also provoke thought and spark dialogue.
6What compliment inspired/touched you the most?
The most touching compliment I received was when someone told me that the depth of my photo sent a whirlwind of thoughts and resonated deeply with their heart and soul.
7What inspires your unique storytelling?
My unique storytelling is inspired by the vibrant hues of everyday life and the emotional resonance of fleeting moments. I aim to infuse my work with a sense of timelessness and depth.
8What THREE (3) words describe your photography style?
Vibrant, evocative, and experimental.
9Congratulations! As the winner of the London Photography Awards, what does it mean for you and your team to receive this distinction?
Thank you! Winning the London Photography Awards is a tremendous honour. It validates our hard work and dedication, and it motivates us to continue pushing the boundaries of creativity in photography.
10Can you explain a bit about the winning work you entered into the 2024 London Photography Awards, and why you chose to enter this project?
In each photograph, the jellyfish represent unique perspectives and experiences, mirroring the diverse opportunities that new horizons bring. The intricate patterns and radiant hues reflect the dynamic nature of exploration and the ever-changing landscapes of both the underwater world and life's journeys. The project invites viewers to contemplate the beauty and mystery of these creatures, encouraging them to embrace the unknown with a sense of wonder and curiosity. I chose to enter the "Underwater Kaleidoscope" project because it embodies my artistic vision and highlights the themes of exploration, diversity, and conservation that are central to my work.
11How has winning an award developed your career?
Winning awards has significantly boosted my career by increasing my visibility and credibility in the art community.
12Name 1-3 photographers who have inspired you.
One photographer who has significantly inspired me is Paul Cupido. His work, which often explores themes of impermanence and the beauty of nature, resonates deeply with my artistic vision and approach.
13What was the best piece of advice you were given starting out, by a mentor or your role model?
The best advice I received was to always stay true to my vision and never be afraid to experiment. Authenticity and innovation are key to creating impactful art.
14What advice would you give someone who would like to become a photographer today?
My advice would be to practice constantly, study the work of other photographers, and always be open to learning and experimenting. Find your unique voice and tell your story through your lens.
15What is your key to success? Any parting words of wisdom?
My key to success is a combination of passion, perseverance, and continuous learning. My parting words of wisdom would be to always stay curious and never stop exploring new creative possibilities.
