Photography wasn't Francis Meslet's favourite subject. However, looking at his photographs, we highly doubt that because they are great masterpieces.
For a long time, I dreamed of being an architect, before eventually turning towards more artistic studies. The five formative years I spent studying at the Nancy École Supérieure d’Arts aroused my curiosity in multiple domains. Photography was not my favourite subject at that time. What I really loved was drawing, graphism, and the power of conveying ideas with just a few pencil strokes. When the time came for me to choose how I wanted to earn a living, that is what guided me.
In the Fine Art School of Nancy in France between 1981 and 1986
As a child, it was my pet. Special effects with my brother and my guinea pig. By playing on the distance, we made the giant animal appear next to a very small frightened man. I was around 8 years old at that time!
As student, my first photography was a nude model.
As heritage photographer, it was an abandoned overgrown sanatorium lost in the middle of the forest.
Actually, a full frame reflex: Nikon D850 with 14-24mm f2.8 lens.
I would like to have a lot more free time ,and some means to travel and photograph the abandoned heritage in as many countries and cultures, as possible all around the world.
The best compliment is seeing someone moved in front of a photo. Without being able to say a word. One glance is enough.
Silence, absence, and nature taking back its rights
1: Time.
2: Light.
3: Depth.
The pleasure of a certain recognition, but above all, the opportunity to share my work with as many viewers as possible.
The winning work is an abandoned chapel near an abandoned castle in south of France :"Face to Faith". This is one of the images appearing in my last book: "Abandoned churches. Unclaimed places of worship". Since 2012, I have been traveling Europe in search of this type of place. This one particularly touched me by its unsuspected splendor. This altar has been erected between the 4 walls of a chapel lost in the middle of the vines.
Awards are not leading the way I like to travel and photography.

Learn the technique then forget about it. Then, let yourself be guided by your eye and your heart.

I don't know anything about success. What is success?
If one day you discover what is success, don't let it lead your Art.
I am very curious and always listening.
No Idea. I'll think about it.
Raymond Depardon, Pentti Sammallahti, Candida Höfer. I don't have the pleasure of having their personal email, but I think you will find them easily.
Thank you for your interest in my work
