Interview with the 2022 MUSE Creative Awards Winner - Danaë Pimentel Dos Santos

1Please give us a brief bio of yourself and your creative background.

Hi, I am Danaë. I'm French and Portuguese and currently enroll in a dual program with FIU and Miami Ad School in the Art Direction Track.

2What made you become/why did you choose to become a creative?

I was doing a BBA in France specialized in Marketing and communication, during my last internship, I was an account in an advertising agency and I was looking at the creatives dreaming about doing their job. So I tried, I give myself a shoot and I apply to Miami Ad School!

3Tell us more about your business/company, job profile, and what you do.

I love advertising. I see being an art director as a fun job, something I want to do everyday with passion and good vibes. I would love to work in an agency after I graduate.

4What does “creativity” mean to you?

I see creativity as a gift some people are born with. Even if you were gifted of it, it is still something that need some work on. But overall, I see it as a way to bring positivity in the world. It could be by solving a problem, helping people or just make people feel an emotion.that someone takes note and stops to look.

5To you, what makes a “creative” idea and/or design?

I think a "creative" idea or design should make you think "woah, this is genius, how did they come with this idea ". If you get this "woah this is genius", you can consider it as creative and creative enough for people to remember it.

6Tell us about your creative and/or design process.

When I read a brief, my first reaction is to read it from a consumer perspective and asking myself "what would I want as a consumer?"

7What's your favorite part of the creative process and why?

My favorite part is when you know you have a good idea and you can make it a great idea. The excitement about it, it's so cool. It's like you won the lottery.

8Describe your creative style and its main characteristics.

I believe I have a minimalist design style, very clear and pure, as for my idea, I love when they do more than just solving a brief. I try to have ideas that would have an impact and actually help people or make people feel something.

9Do you think your country and its cultural heritage has an impact on your creativity process?

I'm 24 and I am from 2 different countries, I lived in 6 so far. I believe I have learn for each culture and that has influence my creativity process. I have influence from every place I lived in or traveled. I truly think that the world has so much to offer and it is a great source of inspiration for all of us.

10Congratulations! As the winner of the 2022 MUSE Creative Awards, what does it mean to you and your company and team to receive this award distinction?

There are my first awards. I am really proud of myself and it give a recognition and value to all that I give up, coming to the states to study, leaving my family and friends, starting all over again without knowing anyone it. I really wanted to make my relatives proud and I think I did.

11Can you explain a bit about the winning work you entered into the 2022 MUSE Creative Awards, and why you chose to enter this project?

I entered 3 different works that, I believe represent the type of work I do. The first one is a design made with type only on Brighton. I love how it came out and how a simple idea and a minimalist design can represent a city. The second is Co-By Bose, it's a product innovation that would help people to reconnect. The last one is for Netflix and it has the sense of how a simple idea can have a huge impact and bring awareness on real subjects.

12What was the biggest challenge with this project?

I would say being just, not doing too much. I like minimal but when we do minimal it has to have the perfect balance to be impactful without being too much.

13How has winning an Award developed your practice/career?

I hope it will help me finding an internship or a job. But overall it gives me more confidence about my work.

14What are your top three (3) favorite things about our industry?

I see it as a playground for adults, it can have a real impact, it's like a big family.

15What makes your country specifically, unique in the creative industry?

I would talk about France more than Portugal on this one. I think, in France we are not afraid to shook and our sense of humor can be dark sometimes. So ads we have would have never been accepted in other countries, they might be seen as rude or inappropriate. I'm thinking about a chocolate ad that were made for valentine day were sex content was obvious or how we make fun of ourselves like with Citroen who make fun of the terrible design of their last car.

16Where do you see the evolution of creative industry going over the next 5-10 years?

I think, it's gonna be more and more digital with media we have no idea of yet. It's gonna be more and more challenging to find what was never done before and sustainability will have a major role in advertising.

17If you were a student entering this industry or an aspiring MUSE Creative Awards submitter, what advice would you give them?

Do it! What do you have to lose? If you don't, we might have regrets, no one wants to live with regrets, be bold.

18What resources would you recommend to someone who wants to improve their skills in the creative industry?

Honestly, I think LinkedIn Learning has a lot of great ressources, and the classic Youtube..

19Tell us something you have never told anyone else.

Does the fact that I talk with my ex count?

I'm an open book.. I don't have anything in mind.. sorry

20Who has inspired you in your life and why?

My friends. I have a group of friends in France we know each other since we are 2 and we went through so many things together. Seeing how far we all came from and where we are now, makes me think we are all super women and we can do everything. Having their support inspires me to give my best every day so I haven't their birthday, or big news for nothing.

21What is your key to success? Any parting words of wisdom?

To success you have to give your best, all your guts in what you do. You have to be proud of what you do and put your soul in every project. At the end of the day all of your projects carry a part of you. You have to believe everything its possible and just try it.

22Which THREE (3) friends/peers would you nominate to participate in the next MUSE Creative Awards?

Jerchovia Moxey

Prerna Gosai

Jaclyn Soria
