Interview with the 2019 Vega Awards Winner -Christa Kleinhans Tuttle

1Please give us a brief bio of yourself and your background.

I am the Founder and CEO of Launch Marketing. I founded Launch in 2001 as a boutique marketing firm specifically geared towards Austin-based B2B tech companies in need of a virtual marketing team, and since then our client portfolio has grown to over 150 clients from across the globe. Prior to founding Launch, I led marketing for a venture capital firm nationally and in the regional markets and I worked with portfolio companies in Austin to help bring their products to market.

Before that, I was the fourth person in marketing at Trilogy Software where I grew and led the events marketing team which drove more than 50% of the company’s leads. Launch Marketing started as a culmination of my natural entrepreneurial spirit and prior strategic marketing expertise and has since evolved to an award-winning firm committed to delivering exceptional results and services to all of our clients.

2Tell us more about your business/company, job profile, and what you do.

Launch Marketing is an Austin-based marketing firm that works with B2B technology companies across verticals to streamline customer acquisition and accelerate revenue growth. As Founder and CEO, it’s my job and passion to ensure we are committed to the core values I founded Launch on, while also staying agile to the rapid evolution of the marketing industry.

Launch’s services span from developing and executing go-to-market strategies, messaging and integrated marketing plans to ensuring our clients are equipped with a smoothly running marketing machine that generates leads and drives revenue for their company. We tailor our services to each client’s individual needs with the ultimate priority of empowering our clients through the development of sustainable strategies and attainable goals. From stepping in as their Virtual VP of Marketing to developing messaging strategies that support growth and scaling within their industry, our mission is to provide clients with meaningful expertise, guidance and execution every step of the way.

3To you, what makes a “good” design?

It is hard to define exactly what qualifies a “good” design, but what we strive for and aim to walk away with from any design project is feeling like we in some way broke the mold on what’s been done before or what was expected. Strong design should align with the original goals of the project, while also incorporating in some element, whether that be an eye-catching combination of colors or interestingly laid-out graphics, that adds a unique stamp to the design piece. Every design should not only highlight the content or message you want to convey, but also present an innovative design perspective.

4Tell us about your design process.

Our design process involves in-depth collaboration between our internal design team and the client to create original designs that accurately capture the client’s brand while also taking their previous design concepts above and beyond. By thoroughly listening to the client’s needs and pain points, we create designs that not only reflect our client’s brand, goals and core values as an organization, but also establishes a new standard for their company’s branding and design going forward.

5What current trends in digital design (or really anything digital related) are you most excited about?

There are so many fascinating ways that digital design is evolving and growing, but one of the trends that has caught our eye the most is the asymmetrical design trend. Many websites have started to employ designs that have juxtaposing shapes and layouts, breaking away from the more formulaic, top-down designs websites have employed in recent years. This asymmetrical design rethinks the way users experience a website, as the irregular shapes and sizes can lead website visitors down a more non-traditional path on your website, making it a unique experience that sets your brand apart.

6Congratulations! As the winner of the 2019 Vega Awards, what does it mean to you and your company and team to receive this award distinction?

Thank you! We are passionate about the work we deliver to our clients, so the opportunity to take our work and showcase it alongside other leading marketing firms across the globe is incredible. Awards like Vega truly ignite our passion for excellence, highlight our genuine commitment to delivering outstanding work to our clients and reiterate our goal to be the go-to B2B marketing firm in Austin, Texas.

7Can you explain a bit about the winning work you entered into the 2019 Vega Awards, and why you chose to enter this project?

We nominated an innovative and original website that we created for one of our clients, plnar. To support plnar’s product revamp in a new industry, Launch developed a streamlined, highly visual site incorporating illustrative features and plnar’s distinctive color palette.

Launch listened to plnar’s desire for innovation and individuality with their updated website by creating a blend of customized iconography and animation, as well as a unique, modern color palette that contributed to an eye-catching, noteworthy website. This innovative and unique website design felt worthy of recognition from the Vega Award design community.

8How has winning an Award developed your practice/career?

Winning a Vega Award continues to set the bar for our firm and emphasizes our ongoing commitment to delivering outstanding marketing solutions for our clients. Our core values are centred around being results-oriented and bringing passion to everything we do. Awards like this drive our team to uphold that standard and find new ways to push the boundaries on innovation within our field.

9What is your key to success? Any parting words of wisdom?
