4What does “design” mean to you?
To me, "design" means creating and solving problems. It is not only an expression of beauty but also a way to meet people's needs. Design focuses on balancing functionality and aesthetics, improving people's living experiences through spaces and objects. It is a means of communication that conveys emotions and stories, giving each design its unique significance.
5What’s your favorite kind of design and why?

I particularly enjoy design that involves creative demands. This type of design challenges the norm and encourages unique thinking and innovative solutions. It focuses not only on aesthetics but also on the underlying concepts and stories behind the design. By addressing personalized needs, creative design can truly reflect the client's values and lifestyle.

I appreciate this kind of design for its uniqueness and limitless possibilities. Creative design not only breaks conventional boundaries but also inspires people's imagination and emotional resonance, resulting in stunning works. Each project presents a new challenge, giving me the opportunity to explore different materials, forms, and techniques while venturing into new design directions.

This innovative process excites me and continually drives my development in the field of design.

6To you, what makes a “good” design?

The "good" design is one that perfectly balances functionality, aesthetics, and user experience. It not only meets basic needs but also enhances quality of life and provides a pleasurable experience. Good design should be practical, allowing people to feel convenient and comfortable while using it.

At the same time, it should also possess beauty, visually attracting people and conveying specific emotions and atmospheres. Good design is an organic combination of functionality, aesthetics, and user experience, capable of touching hearts while meeting practical requirements.

7Describe your design style and its main characteristics.

My design style primarily combines modern minimalism with creativity, emphasizing the harmony between functionality and aesthetics. I pursue a simple design that removes unnecessary decorations to create a comfortable atmosphere while focusing on practicality to ensure that the spatial layout meets users' needs. I enjoy challenging traditional design thinking, paying attention to individuality and creating unique and attractive spaces.

Additionally, I often incorporate natural elements, such as natural light and plants, to enhance the living experience, and I use clever color and material combinations to enrich the space's depth and beauty. Overall, my design aims to create aesthetically pleasing, comfortable, and practical space experiences for clients.

8Tell us about your design process.

My design process typically includes the following steps:

Needs Analysis: First, I engage in in-depth communication with clients to understand their needs, goals, and expectations. This includes discussing the functionality of the space, style preferences, budget, and usage habits.

Concept Design: Based on the client's needs, I develop initial concept designs. I create sketches and mind maps to explore different design directions and possibilities.

Space Planning: I conduct detailed space planning to determine the layout and functional zoning of the space, ensuring practicality and flow in each area.

Material and Color Selection: According to the design concept, I choose suitable materials, colors, and furniture to ensure the overall style is cohesive and harmonious.

Design Renderings: I produce 3D renderings and mock-ups to help clients visualize the design scheme more intuitively and make any necessary adjustments.

Construction Management: During the implementation phase, I communicate with the construction team to ensure the design is realized as planned, while addressing any issues that arise during the construction process.

Project Acceptance: Upon completion, I conduct a project acceptance with the client to confirm whether the design meets their expectations and gather feedback for future improvements.

Through this series of steps, I aim to ensure that each project proceeds smoothly and ultimately satisfies the client.

9Do you think your country and its cultural heritage has an impact on your design process?

I believe that my country and its cultural heritage have a profound impact on my design process. China's rich history and cultural traditions provide me with abundant inspiration and material for my designs. I often draw inspiration from traditional architecture, craftsmanship, and art, incorporating modern design elements to create works that have cultural depth.

Chinese culture emphasizes harmony and balance, and this philosophy is reflected in my designs. I pay attention to the fluidity and integrity of spaces, striving to find a balance between functionality and aesthetics. Additionally, I consider local culture and customs to ensure that the designs align with the surrounding environment and community.

Furthermore, with the process of modernization, I actively incorporate contemporary aesthetics and technological elements into my designs to meet the demands of modern living. This combination of tradition and modernity gives my designs a unique and fashionable quality.

In summary, my country and cultural heritage not only provide inspiration in the design process but also shape my understanding of space, materials, and forms.

The biggest challenge of this project was effectively integrating multiple functions, including community activities and fitness areas, within a limited space while maintaining comfort and aesthetic appeal. We needed to ensure that each area could meet its usage requirements while creating a harmonious atmosphere.

The three things I love most about our industry are:

Creativity and Innovation: The interior design industry is full of endless opportunities for creativity and innovation. I enjoy the process of transforming ideas into actual spaces; this creative freedom excites me.

Interaction with People: Design is a collaborative process involving clients, team members, and other designers. I enjoy communicating with people from diverse backgrounds and ideas, understanding their needs, and translating those into design solutions.

Impact on Quality of Life: I love that interior design can directly influence people's quality of life. By creating beautiful and functional spaces, I can see how people's lives improve through design, and that sense of accomplishment brings me great satisfaction.

These three aspects fuel my passion for the interior design industry and motivate me to continually pursue excellence.

15What makes your country specifically, unique in the design industry?

The uniqueness of our country's design industry is primarily reflected in three aspects. First, there are relatively abundant creative platforms and opportunities, allowing designers to explore and practice in various fields, from interior design to product design and urban planning. Such a wide range of projects provides creators with extensive opportunities for exposure. This diversity not only promotes the professional development of designers but also drives innovation and progress throughout the industry.

Second, the diversity of design styles makes design works richer and more personalized. Designers can flexibly apply both traditional and modern design concepts according to different client needs and market trends, creating spaces that meet functional requirements while also being visually appealing. This variety in styles not only reflects the creativity of designers but also satisfies people's increasingly diverse aesthetic demands.

Finally, the rich cultural heritage provides a profound source of inspiration for design. Our country's long history and diverse cultural background allow design works to incorporate elements of traditional art, crafts, and architecture in their conceptualization. This combination of cultural heritage and innovation imbues design with deeper meanings, helping people reconnect with history and culture in modern life.

In summary, these unique characteristics make our country's design industry competitive globally, attracting more international attention and collaboration while providing designers with endless creative inspiration and development opportunities.

16Where do you see the evolution of design industry going over the next 5-10 years?

In the next 5-10 years, the design industry will develop in the directions of sustainable design, technology integration, and user-centered design. Designers will pay more attention to eco-friendly materials and energy-efficient designs while utilizing technologies like artificial intelligence and virtual reality to enhance design efficiency.

User experience will become a priority, with designers needing to deeply understand user needs to create more human-centered spaces. Additionally, interdisciplinary collaboration will become more common, with designers working alongside other professionals to create comprehensive design solutions.

Overall, the future design industry is filled with innovation and opportunities, and designers must continuously adapt to changes to enhance their professional skills.

Additionally, follow designers on Instagram, Pinterest, and Behance, and join design forums to exchange experiences and inspiration with other designers. Finally, visit design exhibitions and outstanding architecture to observe different styles of design work and gather inspiration.

19Tell us something you have never told anyone else.

In addition to design, I often watch movies and imagine the various possibilities for my new projects through scenes from different eras. Movies are not just a form of entertainment; they are an artistic expression that can inspire deep reflection on space, color, and atmosphere.

Each film has its unique visual style and emotional ambiance, and I enjoy analyzing how these elements come together to convey specific themes or emotions. For example, the minimalist style and soft tones in classic films often make me think about how to create an elegant and warm atmosphere in my designs, while modern films may inspire me to experiment with more innovative and bold design elements in my projects.

20Who has inspired you in your life and why?

In my life, my family and friends are important sources of inspiration. Their support and encouragement have given me the confidence to pursue my design dreams. The diverse perspectives and experiences they share stimulate my thinking, allowing me to better understand people's needs and emotions in my designs.

Additionally, many outstanding designers and artists have had a profound impact on me. By studying their works and philosophies, I have come to appreciate the diversity and depth of design. Their innovative thinking and pursuit of beauty continuously inspire me to strive for excellence in my own designs.

21What is your key to success? Any parting words of wisdom?

My secret to success is actually quite simple: persistence and continuous learning. In the design industry, it's really important to maintain curiosity and an open mindset. I believe that only through practice and exploration can one improve their skills. At the same time, good communication with clients, teams, and peers is crucial, as it helps to better understand needs and create more valuable designs.
