1Please give us a brief bio of yourself and your design background.

I’m currently a Product Design Lead at VMware. I have over 10 years of experience in the tech industry, having received my Master’s Degree from NC State University College of Design. I focus on creating intuitive and impactful user experiences.

My career has spanned various domains, including enterprise software and AI-driven solutions, with a strong emphasis on user-centric design and collaboration with cross-functional teams. My passion lies in solving complex problems and designing products that enhance both usability and functionality.

2What made you become/why did you choose to become a designer/artist?

I chose to become a product designer because I’ve always been passionate about solving problems and improving people’s experiences with technology. The challenge of creating intuitive, user-centered designs that make a tangible difference in people’s lives is incredibly fulfilling.

I enjoy the blend of creativity and functionality in design, and the ability to turn complex problems into elegant, user-friendly solutions motivates me every day. The impact that well-designed products can have on users drives my enthusiasm for this field.

3What does “design” mean to you?

To me, design is all about solving problems in a way that feels natural and intuitive. It’s not just about making things look good—it's about creating experiences that make people’s lives easier or more enjoyable.

Whether it’s simplifying a complex process or adding a small detail that brings joy, design is about thinking from the user's perspective and finding the best way to meet their needs.

4What’s your favorite kind of design and why?

I love designing user interfaces, especially for complex systems. There’s something really satisfying about taking something that could be overwhelming and turning it into something clear and intuitive.

It's like solving a puzzle—figuring out how to make a tool or system not just functional, but enjoyable to use. Plus, seeing how a well-designed interface can make a difference in someone’s day-to-day work is incredibly rewarding.

5To you, what makes a “good” design?

To me, a "good" design is one that feels invisible because it works so seamlessly. It’s intuitive, meeting the user's needs without them having to think too much about it. Good design solves a problem effectively, making something complex feel simple.

It also considers aesthetics, accessibility, and user feedback, creating an experience that’s not only functional but also enjoyable and inclusive. When a design feels effortless and leaves a lasting positive impression, that's when I know it's good.

6Describe your design style and its main characteristics.

My design style leans towards simplicity and clarity, with a strong focus on user experience. I aim to create designs that are clean and intuitive, where every element has a purpose. I prioritize functionality, ensuring that users can achieve their goals with minimal friction.

I also pay attention to consistency, using a cohesive visual language that feels familiar and easy to navigate. Ultimately, my goal is to balance aesthetics with usability, creating designs that are not only visually appealing but also efficient and user-friendly.

7Tell us about your design process.

My design process typically starts with understanding the problem I’m trying to solve. I begin by gathering as much information as possible through research, user interviews, and analyzing existing data. From there, I move into ideation, sketching out initial concepts and exploring different approaches.

Once I have some ideas, I create wireframes and low-fidelity prototypes to map out the user flow and basic layout. I then iterate on these designs, gathering feedback from stakeholders and users to refine the experience. As the design evolves, I move into high-fidelity mockups, focusing on visual details and interactions.

Throughout the process, collaboration is key. I work closely with developers, product managers, and other designers to ensure the design aligns with technical requirements and business goals. Finally, I conduct usability testing to validate the design and make any necessary adjustments before handing it off to development.

My process is flexible and iterative, always centered around the user’s needs, with a strong emphasis on feedback and collaboration.

8Congratulations! As the winner of the 2024 MUSE Design Awards, what does it mean to you and your company and team to receive this award distinction?
Winning the award is a huge honor for me. It validates the hard work, creativity, and dedication I’ve put into my projects. It’s a proud moment that motivates me to keep pushing boundaries and delivering exceptional products that truly make a difference.
