Interview with the 2019 MUSE Creative Awards Winner -
Mathieu Anfosso

1Please give us a brief bio of yourself, your company, job profile, etc.
I have always been fascinated by computer generated graphics and beautiful content of any kind. After getting a degree in Applied Arts on the French Riviera followed by a master’s in architecture in Paris, I moved to California’s Central Coast where I have been working for TEN OVER STUDIO, a multi-disciplinary office providing architectural, landscape, interiors and media services. Over the past few years, I made it my mission to master 3D rendering technology and apply it to most of my interests. I’ve become a standout in this field – leading to the creation of TEN OVER MEDIA.

The making of TEN OVER MEDIA also lies within the relationship my twin brother, Remi, and I have; a special bond that blends our interests and skills. He is an active film and advertising director in the film and TV industry working across the globe.

Together, we strive to blur the lines between our fields and provide 3D films for hospitality properties’ pre-marketing campaigns.
2Tell us a bit about your business and what you do.
TEN OVER MEDIA is a property marketing office, where we pride ourselves on creating groundbreaking and beautiful videos for pre-opening marketing campaign of hotels and resorts under construction. We’re here to help a marketing campaign achieve its goal and raise awareness as well as get bookings before the property opens. Our most important job is understanding all fields involved in the creation of a property and its target audience, giving them a story that means something to them.

Our business is also the unification of two industries; architecture and film. The relationship between myself and my twin brother (our film director) gives us something unprecedented; we’re able to talk to each other honestly and put our egos aside.
3Congratulations! As the winner of the 2019 Muse Awards, what does it mean to you and your company and team to receive this award distinction?
We are deeply honored for our work to be recognized as a leader in the creative field, and very proud of the team that made this possible. It is a testimony of accomplishment to have received both Platinum and Silver Muse Creative Awards for the 2 projects we submitted in the competition.
4Can you explain a bit about the winning work you entered into the 2019 Muse Awards, and why you chose to enter this project?
River Run had a lot of content to advertise to multiple audience types. The goal was to be a recipient of memories. It’s something for everyone that is both nostalgic and fresh. They speak to anyone who find themselves daydreaming of what could be. Our work resulted in videos and images that showcased storytelling, media-adaptation and technical skills in a way we thought could be inspirational to others.
5What was the biggest challenge with this project?
Our main challenge was to manage content. The area surrounding River Run is very large (about 200mi² or 500km²) and was built in computer-generated 3D from the ground up, including the Colorado Rocky Mountains!

The property also features tens of thousands of trees, plants, and flowers along with hundreds of vehicles – not to mention furniture. The 3D team did an outstanding job compiling everything in a timely and efficient manner, while keeping in mind the big picture. Our film director had a lot of content to work with, which can be unusual in 3D videomaking. His creative mind was firing, and we were able to produce outstanding and detailed videos that were broadcasted on web, social media, TV, and newspapers.
6How has winning an Award developed your practice/career?

It comforts us in not being afraid of our imagination, which is a boost to our creative confidence. We are also thankful to the Muse Creative Awards for the publicity our work has gotten across online platforms and social media. This recognition has helped us bridging the audience gap between different creative fields and pushes us to work harder every day to produce better, innovative work.
7What are your top three (3) favorite things about our industry?
- It’s interdisciplinary; we can work on all mediums, platforms, and for all company types and fields.

- It’s forward-thinking; we always push boundaries to deliver new ideas and content.

- It has a cultural impact; knowledge and inspiration come from the past and present, which shapes the future of creativity.
8Where do you see the evolution of creative industry going over the next 5-10 years?
Regarding property marketing, people don’t want to wait – they want to have content accessible right away once they hear about it. So, more and more marketing agencies are using 3D services to jumpstart their campaigns.

Properties can have two different lives then. One before they’re built, one after. Their “built” life will become secondary because its already lived in people’s imagination for a while, so they may already feel at home when they step in. I think there’s also a huge opportunity for properties that gage an audience early, because they can rework or massage what they provide before they open.

We created TEN OVER MEDIA exactly for this; to help the marketing, development, and architectural fields to move forward, together.
9What resources would you recommend to someone who wants to improve their skills in the creative industry?
Always focus on your storyline and work only from it. It’s never about what you can add, it’s always about what fits best. You need to ask yourself “does this help my story?” every time you’re doing something.
