1First, tell us about yourself, your company, job profile, etc.
My name is David Feldman and I am the founder and Creative Director of 3 Owl. My company specializes in branding, web design, and content creation. As Creative Director, I oversee all of our branding and web projects. My goal is to create an environment where my team can put out the best work of their lives.
2Tell us a bit about your business and what you do.
3 Owl’s team is very focused on a holistic approach to web design. We usually take a step back and work on our clients brand before we start working on their site. This includes their positioning, brand language brand identity, logo etc. We have a full-time copywriter on our staff who crafts the brand language and a full-time photographer who compliments our designs with beautiful photography.
3Congratulations! As the winner of the 2018 Muse Creative Awards, what does winning this award mean to you and your team?
We were thrilled to be recognized for our work on Mellow Mushroom’s website. This project was a full digital rebrand for the restaurant chain of 300. The client was wonderful in trusting our creative decisions on this project and winning this award really helped validate the trust the client had in us.
4Where do you see the evolution of creative industry going over the next 5-10 years?
We see websites becoming very easy to make (very little technical skills required), the lines between mobile, tablet and desktop no longer existing, and the quality of content being the most important part of a brand.
5What are your top three (3) favorite things about our industry?
Using design to solve problems.
The ability to measure ROI on good design (good design has real financial value to a company!)
Getting to work with a variety of clients and learning about many industries. In the end, this is all about connecting with people.
6Who has inspired you in your life and why?
My father has been an entrepreneur his whole life. I have seen him identify talented people and give them opportunities to shine. His ability to not just be a boss, but an inspiring leader has been one of the driving forces behind my own entrepreneurship. His generosity, level-headedness, and the ability to see the big picture has been a constant inspiration in my life.
7What makes your country specifically, unique in the creative industry?
I live in the United States — I am very proud of my city, Atlanta, GA. Atlanta has seen huge growth in its creative community over the last decade. We are a uniquely welcoming and collaborative city.
8If you could give one piece of advice to someone considering a career in creative industry, what would it be?
Invite people in the creative field who inspire you out to breakfast or lunch and ask to hear their story — you will learn from both their successes and mistakes.
9What resources would you recommend to someone who wants to improve their skills in the advertising industry?
I love the “A Book Apart” series — it’s written by design and advertising professional. There are so many pearls of wisdom in each book. “You’re My Favorite Client” is required onboarding reading for all of our new hires.
10Tell us something you have never told anyone else.
The first software that I pirated was Adobe Photoshop 5 when I was in 7th grade. I have, of course, long retired from the pirating life.
11Finally, what is your key to success?
I believe the key to success is building an amazing team of people to work with you and inspire you.
