1Congratulations! As the winner of the 2018 Muse Creative Awards, what does winning this award mean to you and your team?
Thank you! Winning meant so much to me. It is lovely receiving some recognition and it makes me feel stronger to keep going.
2Where do you see the evolution of creative industry going over the next 5-10 years?
Hah. I don't like to play the seer plus "the creative industry" is so wide and variate that makes it very vague to talk about just one direction… But here is my guess! The creative industry is a reflection of our society. Is how we express ourselves, is a mirror of what we are and also a projection of what we want to become… As a Director I see that the future is for the ones that has a very strong point of view. Millennials are already here and that is a game changer. They want originality, uniqueness, rareness, realness, truth and un-expectability (I know, that's not a word)… And society (at least a part of it) is also becoming more aware of the lies we've been told. It is hard to believe you'll have a dreamy and perfect stable life. We've learnt the world needs and demands a change and creativity will reflect this discontent but also the strength and power of making things better.
Obviously this will be just the half of it. We are a very polarised society. The other half will still remain producing boring, old ideas.
We need to stand by the half that wants a better world. We need to produce work that pushes boundaries, stands for real democracy and equality.
3Who has inspired you in your life and why?
So many different people! I am lucky to have the best husband, family and friends. I found great people everywhere in everything I did and also I think I learnt how to stay away of the polluted people sometimes cross your path.
One of the most amazing people I am lucky enough to call my friend is the amazing Cathy Kwan, producer at Hornet Inc (the fantastic production company that represents me and other directors in The States, Canada and the UK). A part of being an amazing professional and a bad ass producer, she brings love everywhere she can. Cathy produced my first big job in New York, a project we did for the guys at Facebook. She told me something I will never forget: "Clim, you have both things: the humility of an inexperienced director and also the clarity and expertise of a great creative professional that knows what he wants. Don't lose any of those things".
Also my Dad and my Husband. They taught me that respect, love, and honesty will bring you everywhere.
4What makes your country specifically, unique in the creative industry?
I don't have a country yet as Catalonia has been forbidden to decide its own future due to an incompetent and undemocratic Spanish State. That being said I think Barcelona is a small capital but it is an incredible hub of creativity. Catalonia has a very particular Mediterranean culture mixed with truly European values which makes it both, a very expressive and collaborative society. I think we do have a very balanced way to approach things using craziness and sobriety.
5If you could give one piece of advice to someone considering a career in creative industry, what would it be?
Produce loads of work. Collaborate with other professionals or students that you admire and consider great on something you lack of. Team work is necessary to achieve bigger goals. Annalise your work and try to learn which are the parts that need some improvement. Focus on this on your next project. Repeat.
6Tell us something you have never told anyone else.
Uhm…
I dance crazily in my studio when no one is around.
7Finally, what is your key to success?
I guess there are so many keys out there… plus I am not considering myself a super successful individual… I guess I did some things right but still loads of things to improve and to achieve. I just try to don't get paralysed by fear and my limits even though you need to know what your limitations are. I once learnt: "If you are afraid of something THEN is when you must do it."
Face your fears. Overcome what you think your limits are. Is the only way to demonstrate yourself you are capable of amazing things. ;)
