1Please give us a brief bio of yourself, your company, job profile, etc.
As co-founder and creative director of Elara Systems, I have the pleasure of transforming complex science and medicine into engaging 3D animation and interactive virtual reality experiences.
I work alongside amazing 3D artists, software developers, VR and graphic design experts to make incredibly beautiful and clinically accurate visuals that meet our client’s business objectives.
2Tell us a bit about your business and what you do.
Elara is at the forefront of emergent media, blending artistry and technological advances. We excel in developing strategic digital content for a wide range of companies, particularly those in the medical, pharmaceutical and industrial markets.
3Congratulations! As the winner of the 2019 Muse Awards, what does it mean to you and your company and team to receive this award distinction?
When you are working with emergent media that is not necessarily released for public consumption, it is often difficult to compare your work product to that of your competitors. Winning a Muse Award confirms our belief that we are creating some of the best 3D animation currently available. We are both honored and humbled to be singled out for such a distinct honor.
4Can you explain a bit about the winning work you entered into the 2019 Muse Awards, and why you chose to enter this project?
Most of the creative work we produce is at the behest of our clients. However, we also make a concerted effort to produce a few projects each year for release to the general public. Given the resources we put into production, it is important to choose a topic that garners a high degree of interest by addressing a pressing social issue.
The opioid crisis is aptly named as nearly the same amount of people die each year from auto accidents as those that die from opioid overdoses. By educating the public about this crisis through an engaging 3D animation, we are increasing awareness of the devastating effects that opioids can have on your life and the lives of your loved ones. This type of content advances the public consciousness and is perfectly suited to meet the criteria we apply to internally created projects.
5What was the biggest challenge with this project?
Developing 3D models and a visual style for the brain physiology and visualizing the endorphin receptors was very challenging. We endeavour to blend creative and technological solutions to execute engaging digital communication. These range from teaching and training experiences to marketing and sales solutions.
6How has winning an Award developed your practice/career?
In addition to building prestige and positioning in our industry, winning a Muse Award has had a positive effect on our creative team. It is great to be recognized for our efforts and it gives the team something fun to celebrate.
7What are your top three (3) favorite things about our industry?
My three favorite things about our industry include discovering the amazing interworking of human biology, solving complex visual communication challenges with emerging technologies, and helping people understand how things work with beautiful graphics.
8What makes your country specifically, unique in the creative industry?
n the United States, we have a strong push towards health and wellness which translates into exciting opportunities for medical animation and VR projects.
9Where do you see the evolution of creative industry going over the next 5-10 years?
In the next 5-10 year, I imagine we will witness major advancements in the integration of real-time rendering and AI into our interactive experiences.
These advances will have a massive effect on the entire creative
marketplace. At this point, there is such an amazing amount of progress and innovation, that it’s difficult to see the clear path to the future. Accordingly, Elara is a platform and media agnostic. We are able to create our work with a variety of different computer applications and languages. This ensures that no matter where the creative industry goes, we will always be at the forefront.
10If you were a student entering this industry or an aspiring Muse Award submitter, what advice would you give them?
Create your best work and tell a story that people care about. That’s what we did and the result speaks for itself.
11What resources would you recommend to someone who wants to improve their skills in the creative industry?
Find interesting artists and storytellers, collaborate, and find ways to multiply your efforts and learn new skills.
12Tell us something you have never told anyone else.
I aspire to grow an award-winning giant pumpkin in my back yard.
13Who has inspired you in your life and why?
I am inspired by my mother who is an artist. She taught me how to play with different mediums and experiment with techniques and to find joy in creating content for others.
14What is your key to success? Any parting words of wisdom?
Strive to make something beautiful every day and share it with the world.
15Do you have anything else you would like to add to the interview?
Thank you for this great opportunity! We are honored to be a part of the 2019 Muse Awards.
