Nestled on the north bank of Qingnanjiao Reservoir in Quanlin Town, Enping City, Guangdong Province, the flight experience hall stands as a testament to the harmonious integration of modern design and natural beauty. Surrounded by green mountains and clear waters, the hall honors Feng Ru, China’s first aircraft designer, manufacturer, aviator, and father of Chinese aviation. This project aims to establish an aviation science popularization education base in Guangdong Province, while also serving as a cultural tourism and science and technology experience museum. It combines functions of exhibition, office and conference spaces, recreation and entertainment areas, and a visitor center.
The site’s mountainous terrain, with its significant elevation differences, presented a unique challenge for the architects. Their innovative solution involved positioning a striking annular structure on the southern peak of the site, overlooking the picturesque Qingnanjiao Reservoir. This design choice underscores the hall's landmark status while minimizing its environmental impact. A semi-earthing construction method was employed to conceal the base of the structure, blending it seamlessly into the natural surroundings. An aerial corridor extends from the base, connecting vertically to a separate landscape tower on the north side, giving the building a light and vibrant appearance reminiscent of a spaceship.
Symbolic architectural language is used throughout the design to create connections with local resources, the environment, flight culture, and historical roots. The building’s facade features a glass curtain structure on all floors, ensuring that every corner offers breathtaking views of the reservoir. Silver-gray aluminum plates adorn the eaves, carefully balancing form and structure proportions. The landscape design integrates organically with the mountain, evoking a sense of floating, science, and future aspirations, highlighting the community's enthusiasm for the aerospace industry.
Flight Experience Hall of Enping Quanlin Golden Town emerges as a unique architectural marvel, merging modern aesthetics with the natural environment. Its design not only pays homage to Feng Ru’s legacy but also inspires a connection between visitors and the broader context of aviation and environmental stewardship. This hall stands as a beacon of innovation, education, and cultural heritage in Guangdong Province.
