The next time you’re buying a gift, Don’t Risk Bad Gifts and put a little bit more thought into it with this hilarious Christmas campaign!
Let’s face it, the holiday season is incredibly stressful. You’ve got too many relatives to worry about, cold temperatures, and shops all over the country filled to the brim with customers buying gifts for someone at the very last minute. And of course, the same cookie-cutter Christmas adverts about the joys of gift-giving to one another.
For Switzerland’s largest online store dedicated to giving gifts that come from the heart, instead of falling victim to the adverts of the same caliber. They instead created the “Don’t Risk Bad Gifts” campaign. A complete opposite of what a Christmas advert is and made a comedic mafia short film about the consequences of giving gifts without proper thought put into it!
We are first introduced to our main character and antagonist of the Don’t Risk Bad Gifts advert, Don Regalo. Described by geschenkidee.ch as a seasoned and hardened mafia boss with an exceptionally high standard for everything that crosses his path. Though he is a controlling individual, he is also very personable to those closest around him. However, he can turn into an unforgiving and brutal monster once he feels unreasonably displeased.
In an Italian restaurant, a man dressed in expensive clothing is presenting his gift in front of Don Regalo. Upon opening up his present and inspecting the time and effort put into picking the perfect gift for him, Don Regalo shoots him a look of approval. Much to the relief of the gift giver.
However, silence soon befalls upon the entire establishment once a newcomer arrives as soon as the previous individual hastily excuses himself from the premises. Arriving at Don Regalo’s table he presents his minor gift to him, where he closely inspects the item in his hand and letting out a raucous laugh with the other diners slash mob laughing along with him. But silence quickly returns as the poor soul is dragged out of the restaurant to his fate. All while Don Regalo is smiling with his warm plate of spaghetti and meatballs.
Although a very funny concept ever done in a Christmas advert, it is unfortunately the same fate that many of us also face when we try to think up of a gift for the person we are supposed to present at a secret santa. So take this advice with all seriousness and pick out the best darn gift you can think of for them this holiday season!
