Creating a game trailer is as much about tone as it is about visuals. When the creative team at LAYER was approached to shape the Forever Winter Gameplay Overview Trailer, they knew the standard bright, fast-cut promotional formula would not fit. Instead, the trailer needed to echo the game’s haunting world: a tactical survival shooter wrapped in snow, steel, and shadow.
From the beginning, LAYER guided the creative direction. Their task: build an experience that would not only show what Forever Winter is, but pull viewers into its brutal atmosphere. The process started with concept development, driven by the central themes of survival and overwhelming force. In Forever Winter, players are thrust into a world where colossal war machines roam frozen battlefields and tactical cooperation is the only path forward. Every second counts. Every sound matters. That urgency needed to translate directly into the structure and pacing of the trailer.
A meticulously researched copywriting was tailored to amplify the trailer's tension. Lines were chosen with care as each one was designed to deliver impact and foreshadow the scale of the world's conflict. The right voice was crucial. During the VO casting phase, LAYER tested a range of voice talent to find someone who could project the game’s dread without overplaying it. The result is a delivery that is both restrained and menacing, mirroring the slow build of fear players feel as they push through enemy territory.
Game capture formed the visual backbone of the entire trailer. LAYER worked closely with the developers, combining development assets with custom footage that highlighted the game’s most intense and dramatic moments. These captures were not random clips but selected for their ability to show strategy, player cooperation, and sheer spectacle, especially when the towering machines entered the frame. Each scene was composed to draw the viewer into the world, pushing the narrative without overwhelming the gameplay.
Another thing to note would be the motion graphics that were used to heighten the key points of the trailer. These elements, combined with the visuals, added a level of sophistication that made transitions sharper and storytelling stronger.
Editing was approached like a war strategy - tight, calculated, and purposeful. Scenes did not just follow one another; they advanced, escalated, and reinforced the scale and intensity of the world.
What else is there? Not to mention that the sound design elevated everything about the game. From the heavy thuds of marching metal to the wind that cut through ruined cities, the audio reinforced the bleakness of Forever Winter. The musical score was carefully constructed to support tension arcs within the trailer, guiding the viewer through dread, adrenaline, and finally, curiosity.
What's more, LAYER didn’t just stop at a single version, they tailored the trailer for various channels, ensuring its message could reach audiences across TV, cinema, and online platforms without losing its edge.
The final product which they've received acclaimed with various achievements in the recent 2025 NYX Awards is a focused and skillfully produced campaign piece - one that not only introduces a game but primes players to live inside its world. Forever Winter promises cold danger and tactical survival, and thanks to LAYER’s comprehensive approach, viewers already feel the chill.
