Creating a conducive environment takes thorough planning and undivided attention pertaining the matter to ensure that all employees are able to focus and be at peace in their environment to produce exemplary work. Erin Imhof and her human resource team of CertiK did precisely that with a goal to create inclusivity and equity within the company’s diverse hire of remote employees and contractors that are scattered in over 20 countries.
Erin and her very capable team instituted company yoga for the employees to direct their energy into practicing mindfulness and being active. Apart from that, it gives the employees a breather from their usual working hours and encourages them to adapt to a non-stressful way of living. The United States block-chain company also offers a monthly ‘Skribbl’ game where it fosters affinity among the employees by guessing each other’s drawing. Another interesting activity that Erin and her team came up with was to use a system called ‘Coffeebot’ which is designed to match randomized workers with one another where they revel in the opportunity to talk about themselves and their interest.
These activities mirrors ‘water cooler’ conversation to give a sense of relief and a break from their work to encourage team-building and communication that does not feel forced. Some activities also include monthly events ranging from pet day (showcasing their pets), step challenge (alternative events are offered for differently abled), trivia, Halloween costume contents, wellness events and among others! With playfulness comes seriousness, the company also hosts company trainings on performance reviews, coaching/mentoring, communication and a range of other topics that would prove beneficial for the employees. This in turn would give the employees of all management levels a proper training on how to work with one another and produce exemplary work.
Erin and the human resource team organized a successful all-company meet up in New York City in October 2022 where they managed to coordinate workers flying in from multiple countries. They also arranged a robot building competition, team breakout sessions, mental team games and finished it with a boat cruise around New York City. The very purpose of this large-scale event was to meet each other in person and build comradery and to ultimately encourage a flow of exchanging ideas openly. The competent human resource team of CertiK is planning to host more events in the future to build a culture and foster professional working relationships.
The fruits of their labor proved fruitful and was graciously appreciated by the employees of CertiK. Erin and her team were recently awarded as a Category Winner of Human Resources Team of the Year by the 2022 TITAN Women in Business Awards under the sub-category of Best Employment Strategy. They have brilliantly displayed the measure they have taken to include everyone and organized a variety of activities in order to provide relief to their everyday stress.
