We all know that feeling when that day finally comes. When you hear the doorbell ring and find that the package you’ve been waiting for rests at your doorstep safe and sound. And you know what’s better than that? Finding out the gender of your child that your wife has in the oven for five months and counting!
But how would your reaction be if you were simply invited by a couple’s gender reveal party to find out if their soon-to-be-born child is a boy or a girl? As it turns out, this short advert by Chino Valley Ranchers and produced by Big Chief Creative Media shows you just how tense the situation may be!
The one-minute advert starts with the typical mailman whom we are all too familiar with when we order something off from Amazon or any other e-commerce platform. Package in hand, he walks up to the building he was directed to drop off at when he reads the sign of a gender reveal party opened for the public to participate in.
Rather than not bothering a private affair and placing the package at the front door, he instead invites himself to the party and waltzes into the building. Inside, we see that the party is buzzing with activity with guests from all sides conversing with each other. Our protagonist then puts down the special delivery onto the table piled high with snacks and soon helps himself to the sugary treats, forgetting about his delivery duties.
But then comes the climax of the gender reveal party, with the couple becoming the center of attention and a countdown initiated by the party goers begins. Counting down for the ultimate moment where the identity of the yet-to-be-born child begins. Once the countdown reaches to “One”, the box in the pregnant wife’s hands open up. Finally revealing to us the gender of her baby.
However, the gender of the baby reveals to be chicken feathers and eggs laying on a bed of hay. Still, though, the crowd is still electric over the reveal of their offspring with everybody cheering and offering their congratulations to the lucky couple.
But as the mailman turns around and identifies the true identity of their baby, with his mouth full of sugary deserts of pink and blue, he nonchalantly blurts out that it’s only just eggs. And after not being heard and ignored by the raucous party members, he raises his voice and declares that the child is literally just chicken eggs. Which commands their attention in a bad way and staring daggers at him with silent contempt. To make matters worse, the mom-to-be starts to break down and is comforted by her husband ready to give him a piece of his mind. We then cut to the end of the commercial for Chino Valley Ranchers’ actual product to be featured for the second time in the advert: Free-range chicken eggs!
The Special Delivery advert is definitely a story arc that subverted our expectations, and no doubt will get people to remember to buy a pack of eggs on their way back. Although, the wife would have some explaining to do in front of her husband!
