Interview with the 2019 MUSE Design Awards Winner - Cheng Hui Hsin

1Please give us a brief bio of yourself and your design background.
CHENG HUI HSIN Art Director
design concept:

The harmonious balance of rationality and perceptualness in the character makes Director CHENG HUI HSIN's design works often transcend the gender frame and lay out a large and neat line pattern, tasting the subtleties and feeling the delicate and soft content. In the field of interior design for 20 years, we have always adhered to the philosophy of returning to zero, such as the curiosity and knowledge of newborns, continuing to absorb more creative thinking and ruminating into the design nutrients of each case, combining static space with dynamic occupants. The two are then integrated into a perfect interaction.

2What made you become/why did you choose to become a designer/artist?

I started my career from the interest of space, people, and the natural environment, and I love to explore the new things!

This can be practiced in the construction of space. It can be confirmed in my works over the years. I like to present a changing atmosphere of space! I want to say that the most interesting part of my work is working with people from different backgrounds. It is different in different industries, because this can help me grow more!

3Tell us more about your business/company, job profile, and what you do.

Designers and I must to analyze the content and nature of the design of the brand and the surrounding stores to avoid similar or repeated designs so as to strengthen the uniqueness of the brand, so that the stores we design can be the only ones in the neighborhood.

We will first analyze the positioning of the brand in the market and its customer base, understand the needs of the brand, and put forward professional suggestions based on the overall design structure to discuss with the owners, discuss the directions that are mutually satisfactory, and design each other based on a consensus that all are satisfied with the design work.

4What does “design” mean to you?

Design is the thinking of life! The biggest design challenge is the improvement of self-requirements. Whether it is from construction methods or design ideas, as the times advance, you need to refine yourself. Through continuous transformation, you can advance with the times design works.

5What’s your favorite kind of design and why?

I like restaurant space design the most, because it is challenging and also shows creativity quickly. Through the accumulation of each design case, we can quickly propose exclusive design ideas for different brands, so that each brand can add our design to a multiplication effect.

6To you, what makes a “good” design?

Good design in daily life, no matter people, things, things need to be given the purest and beautiful essence, our sample design focuses on fulfilling the commitment with the customer, creating the most comfortable and happy feeling in the customer's mind! It can also be the most appropriate The aesthetics and taste of life are integrated into the work!.

However, designers should pay more attention to environmental protection issues! In order to respond to the development of "sustainable environment", they must also contribute to the earth.

7Describe your design style and its main characteristics.

I have no established style! The characteristic is that the design cases are very different! Adhere to the use of green building materials to protect the environment and make a contribution to the earth.

8Tell us about your design process.

The design process requires continuous observation and communication, cuts into the space from the perspective of the observer, understands the brand's positioning in the market, and presents the atmosphere preferred by different customer groups, rather than simply designing the space as a space.

By observing, our design combines with popular needs nowadays. For example, young people now use social software, and every time they arrive at a restaurant, they take pictures and check in first, so we think about how to design the space. For beauty, we think about what kind of space background is more attractive, even in the space of soft furnishings and selection of tableware, as careful consideration will be given to the overall brand image, so that every place in the space has an impressive memory point. In addition to being amazing, in these small details, guests must also feel the intimate and valued sense of our design.

9Do you think your country and its cultural heritage has an impact on your design process?

I grew up in Taiwan, where the country is a warm and welcoming island! Our country is very free! Free speech is one of the highest in Asia and one of the most free countries.

10Congratulations! As the winner of the 2019 MUSE Awards, what does it mean to you and your company and team to receive this award distinction?

Very happy; continuing to display Taiwan to the world is my greatest achievement!

Thank you for your hard work and the trust of each customer. Let Hongyang be better year by year, and move every partner to grow stronger! (This industry is very hard)

I also hope to improve myself! Let the work be more perfect We will continue to work hard! Let the energy rise again!

11How has winning an Award developed your practice/career?

Cultivate a team with international competitiveness, and move towards a higher level of design quality to create the greatest value in space and life aesthetics.

We established a branch in Shanghai last year to lay out the development of high-end designs in the Greater China region. The design explores the environment, the connection between space and people, and complete the most beautiful space aesthetics and engineering quality to create the most comfortable space environment for customers.

12Where do you see the evolution of creative industry going over the next 5-10 years?

All designers should pay attention to environmental protection and sustainable design in 5-10 years! For the living environment to respond to the global climate change and warming, it is a question worthy of the deep reflection of every designer. I think all design trends should surround the environmental protection issue!

13What is your key to success? Any parting words of wisdom?

Passion and focus on design, continuous self-improvement and refinement! Do not give up to constantly design new designs with the times.
