1Please give us a brief bio of yourself and your design background.
I was born in France into an artistic family where creativity was a natural part of life. After studying fashion design and interactive design, I began my professional journey in 2018.
In 2020, I founded my namesake brand, Claudia Wang, which integrates art, fashion, and cutting-edge technology. My collections have been showcased at both Taipei and London Fashion Weeks. The core of my work is exploring how art, culture, and sustainability can blend with fashion to create both visual and conceptual narratives.
2What made you become/why did you choose to become a designer/artist?
My upbringing in a creative environment nurtured my love for art and design. Fashion, to me, is a medium where I can combine multiple forms of artistic expression, from visual arts to technology. The ability to explore cultural narratives and challenge conventional aesthetics is what truly drew me to fashion design.
My aim has always been to create pieces that not only look beautiful but also tell a deeper story.
3Tell us more about your business/company, job profile, and what you do.
Claudia Wang is a fashion brand that reflects my passion for merging art with technology. We are pioneering virtual fashion shows and using 3D virtual technology to reduce fabric waste and optimize production.
Our collections are rooted in bold aesthetics and sustainable practices. I oversee the creative direction of the brand, and I also work closely with a talented team to push the boundaries of fashion into new realms like virtual fashion and metaverse experiences.
4What does “design” mean to you?
Design, for me, is a powerful form of storytelling. It’s a way to express complex ideas through visual language. It is also about solving problems—whether through sustainability, cultural commentary, or technological innovation.
Every piece I create carries a narrative that reflects the intersection of art, culture, and the individual.
5What’s your favorite kind of design and why?
I am most drawn to designs that merge art with technology. The possibilities are endless when these two worlds collide, allowing for the creation of pieces that are both functional and aesthetically rich. I also have a love for asymmetry and vibrant colors, which bring energy and a sense of rebellion to my collections.
6To you, what makes a “good” design?
A good design is one that resonates emotionally with the audience while also being innovative. It should challenge norms and have a clear purpose.
For me, sustainability is a key component of good design—using eco-friendly materials and optimizing production processes is essential to creating meaningful, responsible fashion.
7Describe your design style and its main characteristics.
My design style is characterized by vibrant colors, bold patterns, and the seamless integration of digital technology. I often play with asymmetry in my cuts and silhouettes to break traditional norms. Sustainability is also at the heart of my designs, with a focus on reducing waste and using eco-friendly materials.
8Tell us about your design process.
My design process always begins with extensive research and inspiration, often derived from art, culture, and technology. I create sketches, build prototypes, and experiment with materials, always keeping sustainability in mind. 3D virtual technology is integral to streamlining the production process, minimizing waste while allowing creative freedom.
9Do you think your country and its cultural heritage has an impact on your design process?
Absolutely. My home country is rich in cultural heritage and it greatly influences my work, especially in the way I approach symbolism, color, and the fusion of traditional craftsmanship with modern technology. I strive to bring my culture to a global audience through my designs, offering a fresh perspective on our unique identity.
