Giorgia Peroni

Giorgia Peroni is a Law graduate from Genoa, Italy. A practising lawyer with a passion for photography, she captures real emotions and aims to depict the world as she sees it. Inspired by a comment on her ability to capture genuine moments, she aspires to make photography her full-time career.

1Can you introduce yourself and talk about how you got into photography?

Hi! I'm Giorgia Peroni, I was born in Genoa, Italy, I graduated in Law and I am currently practicing as a lawyer. Nevertheless, photography is my real passion. I first approached photography in 2009 with a little Fujifilm bridge camera.

I then attended my first course in 2010 "Top Market Photo" in Genoa. After that, I continued in 2018 with an advanced course on photography techniques with a professional wedding photographer, while I carried out several wedding services.

2Where did you study photography?
I studied photography by attending several courses during and after my university days.
3Do you remember your first shot? What was it?
I believe my first shot was on a field trip in middle school.
4What equipment do you use?
I am currently using a Nikon d3100 as well as a Nikon d750.
5What do you hope to achieve?
I would like to take pictures that could communicate something deeper to people. A hidden meaning behind everyday gestures. I would also like to explore the world of photojournalism.
6What compliment inspired/touched you the most?
A comment that inspired me to where I am today was that someone once told me that I am good at capturing real people's emotions.
7What inspires your unique storytelling?
What inspires my unique storytelling is the desire I have to describe the world as I see it.
8What THREE (3) words describe your photography style?
Uncommon frame, real, and authentic.
9Congratulations! As the winner of the London Photography Awards, what does it mean for you and your team to receive this distinction?
Thank you! I am deeply honoured to have received this award it means that someone somehow noticed my deep passion for photography giving me the chance to share it with other people from around the world.
10Can you explain a bit about the winning work you entered into the 2024 London Photography Awards, and why you chose to enter this project?
I often thought about this photograph as one of my best shots mainly because of the message related to it: we are too many times absorbed by our busy and chaotic society that we miss the real beauty of everyday life.
11How has winning an award developed your career?
It is pushing me to delve into my passion and maybe transform it into a full-time job.
12Name 1-3 photographers who have inspired you.
Henri Cartier-Bresson, Lee Miller Penrose, and Sebasti.
13What was the best piece of advice you were given starting out, by a mentor or your role model?
Be patient and wait for the right time.
14What advice would you give someone who would like to become a photographer today?
Do not listen to other people and follow your passion.
15What is your key to success? Any parting words of wisdom?
The key to success is to be a good observer.
