OlliOlli World has been acclaimed for its authentic replication of the elusive flow state that skateboarders often experience.
The game takes the age-old skating formula and revitalizes it with a vibrant visual style, perfectly responsive controls, and some of the most satisfying score-chasing gameplay ever made.
In OlliOlli World: Finding the Flowzone, the game is set high above the clouds of Radlandia, nestled somewhere amongst the vibrant cotton candy clouds, and the lost skate-cropolis in the sky awaits Radlantis. Rumoured to be lost from all existence, only the skater who can master the five Flowzone Layer regions possesses the skills to uncover this mythological skate kingdom. To complete the story, players must engage with and master the five Flowzone Layer regions.
You’ll be accompanied by the fearless Radmospheric Three, an eccentric group of explorers on a quest to uncover Radlantis. Their predicament arises from their map going missing, torn to shreds by a notorious trickster who scattered its pieces across the daunting clouds of the Flowzone. The only way to locate Radlantis is to help these adventurers reclaim their map, and with the assistance of the Tempest Skate God, Gail Force, a literal breeze.
From the trailer, a key feature of Flowzone is the Windzones scattered throughout each level. Unlike the original game, where pulling off numerous tricks would slow down players, these conveniently placed gusts provide a serious boost. This allows players to rack up massive scores without worrying about slowing down—in fact, sometimes they’ll be skating even faster than they can think! With Windzones, every level becomes more exhilarating than ever, requiring lightning-fast reflexes to nail the perfect combo.
In the original game, the gameplay was mostly limited to skating left and right, but now with the addition of the feature in Flowzone; the Windzones push the player in multiple directions. With the addition of this feature, the game levels are now far more dynamic, players can skate more than just left and right, sometimes even vertically or plummeting beneath the clouds. While this might be disorientating initially, over time this would be a satisfying experience for players wanting more challenging gameplay from OlliOlli in the endgame levels.
Like the original game, the Finding the Flowzone DLC is still vibrant, with colourful visuals accompanied by cartoonish designs. The game would literally leave your head in the clouds, pun intended. Each of the game's levels is themed around each of the Radlandia regions and it is cleverly drawn according to the elements of the levels. An example would be: the Flowzone Layer above Sketchside would be filled with smog that has billowed up through the clouds, whereas the area floating above the beautiful Cloverbrook is filled with friendly bees that have migrated up from the trees below. A simple but effective visual touch that makes the game visually pleasing to the aesthetics of the OlliOlli World regions.
OlliOlli World is one of the most polished skating games ever created, with the new DLC: Finding the Flowzone adding even more improvements and an added breath of fresh air. The trailer featuring new features and mechanics would speed the game's pace and provide heaps of challenges for players to compete and have fun on, making it a worthy winner of the 2024 NYX Awards.
