Anna Aldighieri

Anna Aldighieri is a professional photographer with years of experience under her. Capturing moments of everyday life with a simple camera, her passion grew over time, leading her to refine her techniques, wanting to share her vision and connect with those who observe her works, inspiring through the beauty and uniqueness of her images.

1Can you introduce yourself and talk about how you got into photography?

I have been a professional photographer for several years. I started by chance, capturing moments of everyday life with a simple camera. My passion grew over time, leading me to refine my technique. Five years ago, I turned to artistic photography to express my emotions and visions.

My style focuses on photographs in motion, capturing the dynamism of life and emotions. I love to capture the stories behind every gesture and glance, conveying deep and authentic emotions.

After years dedicated to clients, I now photograph to create art for myself. I want to share my vision and connect with those who observe my works, inspiring through the beauty and uniqueness of my images.

2Where did you study photography?

I am a self-taught photographer. My training has been shaped by a wide variety of experiences, ranging from attending national and international courses and workshops to earning a wedding photography diploma from the prestigious New York Institute of Photography.

Every lesson, every shot, has helped shape my vision and refine my technical skills.

3Do you remember your first shot? What was it?

I still remember my first photo, taken when I was almost a child, at dawn in the mountains with my father. In front of us stretched a breathtaking landscape.

With trembling hands from excitement, I captured that moment in black and white. The quality wasn't excellent, but for me, it was a revelation: the beginning of my journey in photography.

4What equipment do you use?
I use a professional Nikon Z equipment with Profoto flash.
5What do you hope to achieve?

I hope to reach the highest peaks as a professional photographer. Being recognised and seeing my work exhibited in museums or famous collections is one of my goals.

I believe this is the best way to share my artistic vision with a wider audience and to leave a lasting mark in the world of photography.

6What compliment inspired/touched you the most?

One of the compliments that has inspired me the most was when someone said to me, "You manage to photograph the soul." This comment captures the essence of what I strive to achieve through my photography.

My mission is to capture emotions, stories, and authentic moments, going beyond the surface to reveal the essence of people. This compliment reminds me that my work is not just about aesthetics but about a deep connection with the subject and with those who view my work.

It pushes me to explore new perspectives and continue telling stories through my images.

7What inspires your unique storytelling?

My inspirations stem from movement, emotions, contaminations, colours, and the desire to achieve high-level and original artistic expressions. Each shot is a reflection of my vision of human interactions, with a particular focus on the feminine universe.

I strive to capture the dynamism and authenticity of life, creating images that speak directly to the heart and mind.

8What THREE (3) words describe your photography style?
Movement, emotions, and originality.
9Congratulations! As the winner of the London Photography Awards, what does it mean for you and your team to receive this distinction?

Receiving this prestigious award in the field of photography on a global level means a great deal to me and my team. It is a recognition of the commitment, passion, and dedication that we put into every project. This award is proof that our work has an impact and that our artistic visions are appreciated worldwide.

For me, it is a confirmation that the path I have taken is the right one and that the emotions and stories I strive to capture through my photographs can touch people's hearts. For my team, it is a motivation to continue pushing the boundaries of our creativity and working together to achieve new milestones.

This recognition inspires us to keep innovating, exploring new techniques, and constantly improving. We are grateful for this opportunity and determined to continue creating works that speak to people authentically and powerfully.

10Can you explain a bit about the winning work you entered into the 2024 London Photography Awards, and why you chose to enter this project?

I decided to propose this work on ballerinas in motion because I wanted to take on new challenges and further explore my ability to convey emotions through images. This work is more readable to the public due to its composition and the intensity of its message.

The delicacy of the ballerinas is contrasted with their movement, which represents their hidden strength. This strength, usually invisible, is captured and made evident only through photography, almost as if it were a ghost imprinted in the image.

In the end, I chose to present these images in black and white. This choice not only adds a dimension of elegance and timelessness but also allows for a focus on details and emotions, making the message even more powerful and direct.

11How has winning an award developed your career?

This win has not yet yielded significant concrete results, but it has certainly boosted my self-esteem and awareness of my skills and the value of my work. On a media level, it serves as an excellent calling card and has been well-received by gallery owners.

Knowing that my work is appreciated internationally motivates me to continue exploring new artistic frontiers and to further refine my technique. Even though tangible results may still be on the horizon, the recognition is already a big step forward in my career and a sign that I am on the right path.

12What was the best piece of advice you were given starting out, by a mentor or your role model?
Believe in yourself!
13What advice would you give someone who would like to become a photographer today?
Don't just copy, but seek your own style.
14What is your key to success? Any parting words of wisdom?

The key to my success lies in always striving to be myself, unique and original. I firmly believe in the importance of never stopping, always setting new goals, and continually doing research. I never stop at a prize, but see each recognition as a starting point for further exploration and discovery.

It is essential for me to continuously develop my artistic research and see what results I can achieve from it. This approach allows me to constantly grow as an artist and to maintain a fresh and innovative vision.

Being authentic and maintaining one's uniqueness are fundamental elements to stand out and leave a lasting mark in the world of photography.

15How do you stay in that space of being receptive to new information and knowledge?

From a young age, I've had a deep curiosity about computers and technology, always eager to understand how things work and how technology can enhance our lives and art. This natural curiosity has been essential in staying receptive to new information and innovations.

To keep this mindset, I make it a point to continuously educate myself. I follow the latest developments in photography and tech through online courses, workshops, and by reading industry publications.

Moreover, experimenting with new techniques and technologies in my projects helps me to directly experience their impact and potential. Whether it's the latest drone, camera equipment, or editing software, hands-on exploration keeps my practice dynamic and innovative.
