Interview with Jacquie Joy from Australia

Hi, my name is Jacquie Joy. For the past 5 years, I have been scoring films and corporate videos. Before that, I worked extensively writing music for Expedia guides. I started as a vocalist/guitarist in the very early days!

I had the opportunity to be involved with audio and score for real estate and travel videos years ago. I loved working on these projects and just kept going.

I'm a composer/sound designer for film and corporate video. I cover most genres and pride myself in writing music with personality.

Design in the video/film space. Exciting to be at the end of these projects and have the opportunity to put the final touches on something!

When all the elements, including the script acting visuals, are at a high level and then further, come together as a whole.

Music with a subtle personality that helps engage the viewer and understand the story/message. Pleasant to the ear as well/ nice mix etc.

Develop some main music themes/sounds that match/reflect the story and characters. Develop a sound palette and add variations to keep the sound moving and interesting.

Usually from reference music and also from experimentation.

Use AI to help speed up certain elements of my process/business.

I have won four awards this year and it has given a huge boost to every team involved. It's been amazing!

I chose to enter a corporate video in season one this year (won a gold). Then I won another 2 golds for a short feature and narrative film recently.

All projects have different challenges, but in each case, the final products were special and worthy of entry into Vegas.

Great for teamwork/team morale and recognition as well.

2. Never boring – something new every day.
3. Have a chance to do something special.

Australia is very supportive of tech companies. Also, I work remotely, so I'm lucky to benefit from other countries like the U.S. that offer amazing film teams.
