1Please give us a brief bio of yourself and your design background.
I am a designer who specializes in architecture and interior design. I focus on creative concepts and visual storytelling, dedicating myself to creating attractive and meaningful design pieces.
2What made you become/why did you choose to become a designer/artist?
I find inspiration and enthusiasm in the journey of life, and I take pleasure in using various forms of expression, including visual arts, to convey my thoughts and emotions. I hope to also develop a unique creative mindset in the future, enhance my sensitivity to the beauty of life, and quantitatively express the experiences within my heart.
3Tell us more about your business/company, job profile, and what you do.
AIII DESIGN, established in 2017, has been deeply committed to the field of architecture and interior design for several years. In the process of creating each space from 0 to 1, we strive to redefine the patterns and appearance of life. We aim to embrace the concept of subtraction in design, planning personalized ways for users, and providing a more refined experience of minimalist living.
4What does “design” mean to you?
The pursuit of a creative process that encompasses ideas, artistry, professionalism, aesthetics, and human touch.
5What’s your favorite kind of design and why?
I value a minimalistic design for its ability to foster a stronger connection with the environment, with its clean lines creating a sense of spaciousness and reducing the complexity of environmental stimuli.
6To you, what makes a “good” design?
Good interior design should encompass elements such as professionalism, aesthetics, user-friendliness, coherence, sustainability and user experience.
7Describe your design style and its main characteristics.
With a primary emphasis on minimalism, my design style would be to tailor designs to suit individual lifestyles and dimensions while simplifying intricate lines and using materials with low saturation to convey the essence of the spatial experience.
8Do you think your country and its cultural heritage has an impact on your design process?
That’s the beauty of design, its highly universal but for my design, the thorough cultivation of Japanese culture has had a notable influence on a few of my works.
9Congratulations! As the winner of the 2023 MUSE Design Awards, what does it mean to you and your company and team to receive this award distinction?
Winning awards is a process of self-validation in itself. It's just one aspect of career development, and I will continue to build upon creativity as the foundation for future growth.
10Can you explain a bit about the winning work you entered into the 2023 MUSE Design Awards, and why you chose to enter this project?

This project involves the renovation of a pre-owned residence. Initially, the homeowner wished to extend the existing layout and add basic living functionalities. After several rounds of communication and negotiation, they decided to explore a new lifestyle, marking a new chapter in their life. The project began with the removal of certain partitions, merging the living and dining areas into a spacious shared space, allowing for limitless possibilities and diverse usage.

Upon entering the residence, the entryway features a unique material combination, creating a transition area for residents coming and going, and setting the tone for a change in mood. Reflecting the homeowner's hospitable nature, a shared dining area with dual dining tables was incorporated into the interior design to accommodate hosting friends and family.

Furthermore, the material extension on the TV wall visually connects the two shared spaces, creating a subtle harmony. The shared dining table serves not only for dining but also as a workspace and reading area, offering multifunctionality and increased interaction among family members.

Thoughtful layout and circulation planning enhance the functionality and flexibility of each area, reducing the inconvenience of repeated movement in daily life. Overall, the design allows residents to discover new life experiences, explore various facets of life, and appreciate the essence of home and its potential.

The design retains large windows in the façade structure, combined with an open layout with minimal interior partitions, effectively enhancing natural lighting and reducing the need for artificial lighting during the day. In addition to increasing natural light, window treatments and reflective glass films are skillfully used to block outdoor heat, while energy-efficient, high-power LED fixtures contribute to energy conservation and carbon reduction.

Regarding material selection, eco-friendly, low-formaldehyde materials were chosen, considering the residents' physical and mental well-being as well as environmental impact, minimizing the release of harmful substances. This not only ensures a safe and comfortable living environment for the residents but also contributes to sustainable development for future generations. I wanted to challenge myself by testing my abilities in achieving a higher design density with a lower budget.

11What was the biggest challenge with this project?
Slowly guiding the homeowner's preferences is necessary to achieve a design that surpasses the norm while staying within budget.
12How has winning an Award developed your practice/career?
Winning awards is an attempt to showcase our wondrous design capabilities, gain trust, set our company's design style apart, leverage online exposure opportunities, and make potential clients take notice of us.
13What are your top three (3) favorite things about our industry?
Internalizing diverse lifestyles, observing the surrounding environment and bringing conceptual creations to fruition.
14What makes your country specifically, unique in the design industry?
The diversity of culture, emphasis on sustainability and the availability of eco-friendly building materials, along with a focus on intricate industrial precision are some of the distinct features of interior design in my country.
15Where do you see the evolution of design industry going over the next 5-10 years?
Enhancing one's understanding of AI and improving tool proficiency is essential to streamline operations, reduce labor costs, and increase the efficiency of creative thinking.
16If you were a student entering this industry or an aspiring MUSE Design Awards submitter, what advice would you give them?
An advice I would offer is to strive to do everything better than you normally would because this will give you the chance to connect with creators from other parts of the world.
17What resources would you recommend to someone who wants to improve their skills in the design industry?
Education platforms, online forums, and communities, literature, software training, design events, design publications, social media, and, above all, the personal journey of life and self-education.
18Tell us something you have never told anyone else.
The creative process of internalization and realization often hovers between hardship and joy within the confines of time, making it challenging to articulate and convey to others.
19Who has inspired you in your life and why?
Nature, art, culture, travel, historical landmarks, technology, personal life experiences, and the social environment, among other factors, constantly provide me with creative inspiration every day. These things are an integral part of my life, and I strive to internalize them to refine my thoughts and ideas.
20What is your key to success? Any parting words of wisdom?
Every design endeavor is an attempt to push the boundaries of creativity beyond current capabilities.
21Do you have anything else you would like to add to the interview?
I want to express my deep gratitude for MUSE; it has been an exceptional and invaluable journey and experience.
