1Can you introduce yourself and talk about how you got into photography?
I was born in Haarlem, The Netherlands. Currently, I live in Antwerp, Belgium. What started as a hobby has become my profession. I specialized in portrait photography. I make portraits with a feeling of stillness, I try to capture a certain peaceful emotion in my models and I am always looking for a specific unique impression. I work with very soft lighting, which gives the photo a painterly effect.
2Where did you study photography?
In 2019, I commenced my photography studies at the School for Photography in Breda in the Netherlands.
3Do you remember your first shot? What was it?
The very first image I ever captured was through the lens of a Nikon camera. It was a homework assignment, and since it happened to be Easter, I chose to photograph a charming bunny statue.
4What equipment do you use?
Nowadays I work with a Hasselblad camera, X1D and a 90 mm lens.
5What compliment inspired/touched you the most?
It's incredibly rewarding when mothers share with me that they were moved to tears upon receiving the photos and seeing the results.
6What inspires your unique storytelling?
As a photographer, I draw inspiration from a variety of sources but one of my biggest influences is the world of art history. I am particularly drawn to the old masters and their use of light and composition to tell stories through their paintings.
In addition to art history, I am also inspired by the world around me, from the people I meet to the places I visit.

Stillness.
Painterly.
Emotion.
8Congratulations! As the winner of the MUSE Photography Awards, what does it mean for you and your team to receive this distinction?
I feel very honored! Winning an award gives me a boost of confidence and motivation to continue working hard and striving to improve my skills as a photographer.
9Can you explain a bit about the winning work you entered into the 2023 MUSE Photography Awards, and why you chose to enter this project?
I chose to enter these projects because they effectively capture the essence of what I strive to convey through my photography and the perspectives that I aim to portray.
10How has winning an award developed your career?
I do see it as a validation of my work and a sign that I am on the right track. Winning an award has given me a boost of confidence and motivation to continue working hard and striving to improve my skills as a photographer.
Additionally, I hope that it will lead to new opportunities and connections within the industry, and that it will help to increase the visibility of my work. Overall, I am excited to see what doors this award may open for me in the future.

12What was the best piece of advice you were given starting out, by a mentor or your role model?
The best piece of advice I received when starting out as a photographer was from my mentor, who encouraged me to never stop learning and growing as an artist. They emphasized the importance of experimenting with new techniques and styles and I have always pushed myself to try new things and take creative risks.
13What advice would you give someone who would like to become a photographer today?
My advice would be to start by practicing regularly and learning as much as possible about the craft. This could involve taking photography courses, reading books and articles and seeking out mentorship or guidance from experienced photographers. Additionally, I would encourage them to experiment with different types of photography and styles to discover their own unique vision and voice.
14What is your key to success? Any parting words of wisdom?
Approach your work with passion, and resist the urge to rush through it. Allow yourself the time to create something truly special. Strive to develop your own unique style, one that reflects your vision and creative spirit.
15How do you stay in that space of being receptive to new information and knowledge?
As a photographer, I stay receptive to new information and knowledge by regularly attending workshops, reading photography books and articles, collaborating with other photographers, and experimenting with new techniques and equipment. Additionally, I try to approach each new project with an open mind and a willingness to learn from the experience.
