A piece of historic grand hotel lies in the heart of Seattle that reflects its past maritime and nautical history returns with grand restorations that would bewitch guests just as it had decades ago.
The renowned Fairmont Olympic Hotel located in Seattle, Washington first opened its doors to the world in 1924, nearly a century ago by MG2. Its historic status was recorded in the National Register of Historic Places in 1979 which has now completed its final grand restoration.
In order to skillfully restore the hotel, designers from international waters banded together to instill modern aesthetics along with its historic elements, co-existing in an architectural building that produces a sense of elegance and provoke a community-centric experience.
During the restoration process, the team concentrated on reviving and reusing materials that was provided in the hotel rather than removing as that would erase its monumental history. The forty-year-old pinkish marble that was visible throughout the hotel was salvaged, restored and carefully relocated to the concierge desk in the lobby. With the aid of a specialist, the original terrazzo and marble flooring that was hand-laid by Italian artisans 1924 was repaired and furnished with anti-slip finish using innovative technologies.
The statement of elegance and grace, the hotel’s 300-pound Georgian chandeliers remained imperative to maintain and each one was carefully dismantled and wrapped every individual crystal then consequently was assembled for its grand restoration. The original iron handrails from 1920 was raised to meet the current building code standards. These historic elements are impossible to replicate in the modern era which further enhances the beauty of The Fairmont Olympic.
