AFK Arena takes the plunge with their incredible animated music video and takes the crown home with Soar | A Flame Reborn in the LIT Talent Awards!
Today, it would seem that the music industry and the gaming industry are becoming extremely similar to each other despite being completely different mediums. Both are constantly evolving to and elevating the status quo of quality and making innovative strides to blaze a new path in entertainment. Case in point, we have seen video games such as League of Legends creating their own music group with their existing playable characters, and music groups creating original songs for those very same characters.
Following this trend comes not a PC MMORPG game, but a mobile one created by Lilith Games, is AFK Arena, a mobile game centered around dungeon crawling and fighting against bigger and stronger enemies is making waves in the mobile gaming community as a game who is actively creating successful collaborations with well-known parties such as anime studios and IPs as well as game studios like CD Projekt Red. Similarly, in collaboration with Axis Studios, they have created a beautifully animated music video and uplifting soundtrack that showcases the ever-expansive world of AFK Arena!
The entirety of the music video, directed by Marc and Denis Bouyer, is drawn with more than 80 frames of animation that captures the soul of the game and it’s 2D nature in gameplay, but also pushed beyond to create an extremely detailed and refined aesthetic to make the music video expressive and filled with magic, whilst also being accompanied with plenty of emotion provided by the uplifting lyrics of the song.
The music video starts with a dying white tree already being corrupted by an evil force, and one of the game’s characters, Talene, approaches the tree and snaps off a piece of the corruption. Given visions of an evil force and a possible premonition of the future, resembling the force of evil itself and her protecting a small individual.
Her quest then takes her across distant lands that are beautifully hand-drawn by the team at Axis Studios to perfect capture the grand fantasy world that it is set in. But as Talene makes great strides across these unknown parts, she sense a non-hostile presence that has been tailing her for quite some time: A small Wilder sprite, Ashtar, whom Talene constantly tries to ignore but can’t seem to shake Ashtar off of her tail. But slowly, over time, Talene forms an attachment to this brat who can’t be separated from her.
Cutting to night time, Ashtar wakes up from slumber without waking up Talene to gather food to bring back for supper until an adversary appears from the darkness ready to pounce. And in a nick of time, Talene bursts forth from the shrubbery and draws her flaming blade to protect Ashtar. And just when Talene is at the brink of death, she comes back to life and defeats the evil force depicted in her visions.
The music composed in this music video is an incredibly fantastical and uplifting one that depicts the story of overcoming all odds against evil and structured to easily be followed while also remaining catchy to sing along to. Daisy Gray’s soothing vocals also add to the emotion and impact behind every word in the lyrics in great melodic storytelling fashion.
With countless of video games creating great-sounding and catchy music to add more immersion to their video game worlds, very few like AFK Arena breaks into the music market and creates singles that dominate the trending page!
