In the case of Wartales, you will be writing the rag-to-riches story of four unlikely individuals who are desperately trying to climb their way back up from the lowest levels of the bowels of an already lawless society. So strap on your armor, keep your weapons fully functioning, and keep a sharp lookout for bandit groups as you traverse across the shambling ruins of a once great empire for endless loot and acclaim.
Wartales takes place a hundred years after the fall of the great Edoran Empire when it fell to an unknown plague that almost decimated the nation. In the aftermath, the nation fell from grace and upstanding citizens decided to take a branching career path of a brigand with the current trend of banditry, thievery and mercenary work not going to stop any time soon.
That’s where you, the author of the story, comes in. You will take control of some unscrupulous characters who are born into this lawless world of death and debauchery. However, despite the grudges this coterie of cutthroats holding against each other, they are united with a shared goal of obtaining obscene amounts of wealth and the desire to rise up from the lower castes of society. And they will do anything and everything they can to achieve that dream. If that means razing the whole nation, so be it!
Your adventures will take you across different biomes and several different encounters both beneficial and hostile. The lore behind the old Edoran Empire is a deep and complex one, and you will slowly unravel pieces of it with every village, ruin, abandoned mine and razed campsites you come across during your long journeys.
However, your ragtag group of lowlifes is only as good as you can make them be. The unique tactical turn-based combat system puts a new spin to gameplay as you take wild animals, bandits and kill crews, as well as some other entities that you would prefer not to encounter! Pickup new recruits along your journey to make up the weaknesses and augment the strength of your team, accept short and long-term contracts to reap the rewards, and collect bounties on criminals to rid the world with one less bad guy! And while you’re at it, spend that extra dough on some better equipment, items, and camping goods to continually improve your gear while on the move.
