Abandoned pets at the shelter are given a second chance in a fulfilling life through the virtual world and into the real life with Adopt a Sim!
There is absolutely no doubt in anyone’s mind that a dog or cat is a man and woman’s best friend for life. With the presence of our furry pals, all negative emotions seem to melt away as we give them their well-deserved head pats and belly rubs. Life is never a boring one with them just hanging around us!
But for a majority of dogs and cats around the world, they can only do nothing but dream about that lifestyle. Today, an overwhelming 70% of pets all over the world is still left in shelters. Sometimes even staying there permanently throughout their entire lifetime. With the primary reasons being people taking one look at them and not forming an immediate connection with them, preference to other purebred and designer dogs from trusted or shady breeders selling them for thousands of dollars, or even the pandemic when it first hit two years ago.
But do you know who has the strongest of bonds these very same people have formed? Shockingly enough, according to a university in Barcelona, virtual characters in the game The Sims 4! It’s proven that players have spent hours perfectly crafting every aspect of these Sims’ lives. From the looks, body types and clothes they wear all the way to their own unique personality traits. Heck, they even made their own friends and family in the virtual world too!
With this knowledge of players connecting with their Sims in hand, the ASF and developers of The Sims 4 immediately got to work at creating the Adopt a Sim campaign. Making sure these furry friends get a home. Working closely with kennels and pet shelters from all over the world, dogs and cats are digitized into 55kbts files by exactly matching their features, personalities and coat patterns and colors. After that, their listed in The Sims 4 for adoption in the virtual world where players can adopt their dog or cat of choice!
The real magic of the Adopt a Sim campaign starts to shine when the players who have adopted their pet of choice receives an email shortly after. Notifying them that their virtual pet they have adopted in the game is in fact real and an appointment can be scheduled to meet them in person. Giving these furballs a chance at a life worth remembering.
Adopt a Sim is a creative effort at shining a light on the millions of dogs and cats still living in shelters without a home and owner to love. So the next time you’re thinking of buying a pet for companionship, consider saving a few bucks and visit the local shelter instead. You are guaranteed an overwhelming amount of love that these goofballs are capable of when you bring them into your abode!
