As the 2021 New York Photography Awards prepares to venture into a brand-new realm of photography, have a glimpse at the esteemed juries who will be taking over the roles of determining the highest honors.
Marine Foissey
Starting off the panel with a bang is Marine Foissey, a photographer from the lands of France who has had her pieces of work exhibited across France, Luxembourg, Poland and also Spain. According to her beliefs, everyone requires words or if need be, poetic sensations to make life thrilling. Therefore, she is in continuous search of a specific kind of poetry for both her art and also her life. To Marine, she does not accept that images should be self-explanatory, leading to her entitle of photographs that accompanies the series with text. In general, all of her artworks, especially those organized in series, all possess similar qualities.
Marine’s work, no matter taken individually or as a whole is filled with meaning, emotion, aesthetics, and most importantly, her artistic identity. Ever since her youth, she was deeply attracted to different cultures and heavily influenced by art. This was due to the fact that her parents tend to utilize every vacation as an opportunity to nurture both themselves and Marine with Culture and Art. These actions have led to her being exposed to photography during her childhood, as she was also given an analog camera that she was able to use in vacations and trips. Ultimately, this was where her vision, eyes, and emotions began to take shape that led to her achievements today.
Paul Giggle
The next in the list is Paul Giggle, born in Surrey of United Kingdom, who is a highly-recognizable photographer and at the same time, a film director with a great reputation to his name. Being on the jury panel, he possesses a highly developed artistic sensibility and exclusive talent in the capturing of alluring images that speak for themselves in the path to perfection. Before he started to move into the industry, he became a creative director based in London. During 1996, Paul made his move and joined fashion photography for Vogue, Madame Figaro, Gq, Marie Claire, and numerous other fashion campaigns.
In the year of 2005, he transitioned into commercial directing, where he shot many different international commercials and lifestyle films. Even so, he continued to win many international awards in both photography and also directing, where his success can be accredited to his meticulous attention to detail, and also his devotion to the craft of film making and storytelling. With Pauls’ ability to blend artistry with elegance and his understanding of sophistication, he serves as a great addition to the panel as he set benchmarks with his refined aesthetic and arresting images.
Georgina Steytler
The third member of prestigious jury panel is Georgina Steytler, who is a nature photographer that emphasizes her love on birds, ethics, and conservation. Growing up on an orchard in Donnybrook, she developed her passion in nature in a small country town located in Western Australia. Most importantly, Georgina did not receive any professional training prior to her career, and is completely self-taught. Hence, she utilized the past years in attempts to master technical aspects of nature photography, whilst also developing an eye for an aesthetically pleasing composition.
In addition, it is in her blood as a nature photographer to have a duty in doing everything in her power to minimize the impacts towards the natural world, and also conserving it in the process. Conclusively, her photographic philosophy can be summarized in 3 words altogether, which are: art, conservation, and ethics. All in all, Georgina is definitely a suitable candidate to select photographers of the highest caliber in the 2021 New York Photography Awards.
