Soulsborne games have taken the world by storm with its steep learning curve, elevated difficulty levels, and deep and complex lore and world building and enhanced by stunning visuals.
Releasing sometime in Summer 2022, Mastiff Games and Actual Nerds latest entry in the indie scene is a love letter to the soulsborne genre as a whole. Featuring the same levels of difficulty found in games like Dark Souls while having a fresh and unique take on the visuals department.
The Tarnishing of Juxtia is a 2D action-RPG souls game that takes place in the lands of Juxtia. You are the last creation of a dying deity to take revenge on the ones responsible for unleashing the otherworldly plague called “The Tarnishing” and is tasked to purge it from the lands and restore order to its original form.
Having a unique visual theme of using pixels rather than photorealistic visuals, The Tarnishing of Juxtia’s backgrounds and designs for characters, monsters, and bosses are incredibly detailed and meticulously crafted to give the game a dreaded feel to locations and enemy presence.
Combat is very similar to the souls games that many veterans will feel at home with, and it is also a great combat system to help push new players into the genre and helping them learn to time their rolls against enemy attacks and timing their strikes at the opportune moment.
A simple, yet fun soulsborne experience that can be enjoyed by both casual gamers and even veterans of the genre, The Tarnishing of Juxtia is an indie title that should be on your Steam wishlist now!
Go to their official website or Steam page now to wishlist it on Steam, or follow the official r/ttojgame for the latest updates of the game!
