An interview with Ilana Seleznev

Q1. Can you describe your experience and background in the business industry, and how it informs your role as a judge for these awards?

Having run my own business for over a decade, I've gathered a lot of useful tools and insights that I'm excited to share with you.

Q2. What motivated you to become a part of the jury panel?

I believe that in today's world, sharing knowledge is essential. This perspective is my biggest motivator. Additionally, I’m passionate about working with my own method, which I developed. My approach is simple: share, share, and share!

Q3. What do you find most rewarding about being a judge for these awards?

I particularly enjoy meeting new people and sharing information with one another!

Q4. Can you share any insights on the criteria or factors that the jury panel considers most heavily during the evaluation process?

In my opinion, objectivity is the most important thing! As a jury member, you have to read something until the end of the explanation and treat the information and the explanation in a serious way (every concept and business is important).

Q5. How do you evaluate the overall success and impact of a nominee's business?

I think about the business idea and what is its purpose? What is the value? Who is it for? What's the idea behind the work and how it helps our world. However, the most important thing is how the business contributes something innovative and special to this planet.

Q6. Can you discuss any challenges or difficulties you've encountered as a judge and how you overcome them?

I find that the most challenging thing that was very difficult for me to do was rejecting someone's work.

Q7. How do you stay updated on the latest trends and developments in the business industry to make informed evaluations as a judge?

I would read for at least two hours a day on something new and on new developments in various fields, especially technology and design.

Q8. How do you manage the time and workload associated with reviewing and assessing multiple nominations?

I pride myself on being able to follow my own schedule.

Q9. What measures do you take to ensure a fair and unbiased evaluation of each nominee?

With my experience as a judge, the most important aspect I bring to my evaluations is staying true to myself and my principles. I consistently uphold high ethical standards and continually work on self-improvement, a practice I have maintained for many years.

Q10. Can you share any strategies or approaches you use to manage any potential biases that may influence the evaluation?

I don't usually focus on my own preferences. Instead, I prioritize the majority and consider what others would like. It's less about my personal likes or dislikes, as having a 'love it or not' mindset isn't appropriate in these situations.
